From what I've seen of Adekugbe at Valerenga he hasn't looked fantastic just solid, so right now I think despite being inexperienced Bassong along with Miller and Solomon should all be ahead of Adekugbe in depth.

From what I’ve seen of Bassong at Cercle Brugge, he hasn’t looked fantastic, just invisible, because he doesn’t play (on a pretty bad team too).

if we are playing with a traditional LB it’s Sam all day for me

Same goes for Solomon. He somehow in some peoples mind has passed Sam. He plays on one of bottom teams in Isreal and realistically noone even knew he existed 2 weeks ago.

He admits that he caused the contact after that..he simply pushed the ball too far and was never getting to it before the next defender so tried to get the penalty..sit out the next one and think about it kid

I like Adekugbe but realistically he's a midtable starter at Norway and that seems to be his ceiling. Is that enough for Canada? Probably but there are younger players who seem to have high upside.

I still think his knee injury may have lowered his ceiling somewhat.

I remember when "mid-table starter in Norway" gave you a strong case for the starting 11?

Think Chris Pozniak.

Yeah, there was contact, but usually when that happens your feet stumble, maybe you kick the ground or something. He looked to bring his upper body down. So he felt the contact and decided to go down. He went down easy, but these are the types of things that I spoke about a few days back where that kind of thing is rarely called if you stay on your feet, even if it screws up your chances of making a play.

The smaller Norwegian club that is Bodø/Glimt (Simon Thomas used to play backup keeper for them a few years back) improved on their superb 2nd place finish last year and just destroyed every other team in Norway to win the 2020 Eliteserien with a ridiculous number of matchdays remaining.

The race for 2nd through 4th place however is still fairly open and Adekugbe's Vålerenga have a very good shot at staying top 4. This would get them into Europa League, as the 2020 Norwegian Football Cup (their FA Cup) was COVID-cancelled.

Adekugbe is playing a lot of matches and the coach seems to be happy with him.

It looks like they are happy he has another year on his contract with them.

Another random observation I had when I was thinking of our LB options is that he is pretty much the same age as Richie Laryea and both players seem to have really come into their own in the past 18 months (although there was much more hype for Sam because he was in England). He is finally getting a long string of games at a very good level.

Just an observation about Bodo/Glimt, they played AC Milan in the qualifiers for Europa League and Hauge did so well in a losing cause they signed him, early October. Hauge is a '99. Yesterday he seemed quite solid, mobile, had a few chances as an attacking mid on the right; he's scored for Milan already.

Just saying that the exposure can't be underestimated.

Edit: also says a lot about Bodo/Glimt, they lost a leading player, with 14 goals and 10 assists in 18 matches to the end of September, and still won the league.

Yup. Bodø/Glimt have been absolutely deadly this season. Their only loss so far has been away to 2nd place Molde and this was in October after Milan signed Hauge.

EDIT: and Bodø/Glimt's only draws were against Stabæk and Vålerenga (and Bodø/Glimt scored their goals against Vålerenga before Adekugbe was even subbed in for that match so he wasn't at fault).

Adekugbe's Vålerenga

Going back to Adekugbe's situation, 4th place Rosenborg BK have the top 3 teams left to play in their last 5 matches so Vålerenga's chances of a Europa League finish are very good.

I don't think he's ever played UEFA Champions League/Europa League football.

No clue, hopefully someone else can provide some information.

I couldn't find any details about his injury in the 6th minute on Monday but he was helped off the field.

He didn't travel with the team for today's game. https://www.vif-fotball.no/nyheter/flere-endringer-mot-viking

I have no update about the status of Sam's injury but Vålerenga have qualified for the Europa League (second qualifying round) by finishing Top 4.

Their last match of the season will determine if they are 3rd or 4th but the Europa League prize is the same.

Always nice to see another Canadian reaching this level with their club.

@Ansem , another interesting more general stat is that although Vålerenga finished 3rd, they were 6th in "Goals For". Their 3rd place finish is due in large part to their strong defending; they were 2nd best in "Goals Against". Bodø/Glimt who won the league with 26 more points than Vålerenga due to their superb attack, only conceded one goal fewer.

Let Davies have fun on the LW and keep this man at LB.

Sam was fit enough to play a full match, so bring him to Camp Poutine!
