Does anyone know how much CSA keeps from the gate receipts of say the last BMO Field game or the upcoming games at Commonwealth Stadium?

The reason I ask is because Herdman got all giddy about a 15 million windfall if they make the 2022 WC. Don't get me wrong 15 million is nothing to sneeze at but divided by 4 years that works out to 3.75 million a year. That's the reason for my question about gate receipts. Can't CSA make that much by simply staging 5 or 6 games a year?

The last time I checked, which would have been 2019, the CSA’s total annual revenue was about $12M.

Historically, friendlies don't make money for the CSA (thus why they never have them).

Obviously with these levels of attendance things may change, but remember that WC money is $15M with zero expenses attached to it.

Goals and assists are basically level from last year, even though minutes are substantially up.

Do we attribute this to the emergence of our defenders getting regular time now, such as Miller, Bassong, Waterman, etc.

Or.....do we just blame Cavallini for having a shit season :)

Ayo was also injured as well

The one noticeable thing here is that we have had no new college players rise up this season. Whereas the year(s) before Miller, Johnston and Buchanan became regular MLSers and are now stand outs for us.

Did COVID play a part in that? 2020 had a huge impact on most sports, NCAA soccer included.

A lot of goalie minutes too I think. Montreal and Vancouver were with Canadian keepers basically all year.

Wow - who would have thought Teibert would have been topping the table for minutes played at the start of the year!

I think this is the most games Teibert has played for Vancouver in a season in his whole career. Kinda funny though that it coincides with his exclusion with the national team.

Teibert is always up at the top.  The previous two seasons, he had the 3rd most minutes played for an outfield Canadian.  He did play 200 more minutes this season than he did in 2019.  In 2019, he was behind Kaye & Piette and in 2020 he was behind Piette & ZBG.

We're not yet Mexico that can get 50-80k at US$100+ ticket prices for US-based friendlies vs run of the mill to good opponents with at times playing a B team.

Other model is the US which charges a bit less but still many tix priced between US$100-300. But if the opponent isn't considered sexy/no US fan base and/or the US is fielding a B team, they have hard time getting 20k.

Given how many complained about Toronto WCQ ticket prices, Canada will need to wait till qualified for the WC before charging $100+ for a friendly. Getting a top 15 nation to come to Canada will also require a nice outlay. Or as done before, we'll need to get a 2nd tier nation with huge diaspora in Canada/border US cities like Turkey, Iran, Algeria, Nigeria....

For the ~C$15 million (it's actually closer to C$14m), after paying out player/staff bonuses & WC prep expenses (FIFA allocates US$2m), there will be about C$9-10 million left.

Just as a comparison, FIFA is offering fans a package to follow every game of a team in the group stage starting at US $950 a ticket per game (US $2,850 for three matches).  This is obviously including hospitality but you won’t be able to get into a match for under US $350.

The situation with friendlies may change significantly during the lead up and qualification for those other countires hoping to get to the 2026 WC.  We are going to be a sexy friendly opponent for the world's high profile heavy weights.

Absolutely, assume a lot of high calibre teams will want to play in the US which bodes well for us.

Another option would be to have Canada paired up with one of the five team groups in UEFA 2026 World Cup Qualifying similar to what they have done with Qatar to get them matches against quality opponents. It would get Canada 10 games in the lead up to 2026. It is certainly something worth looking into.

It’s 2020 grossed up to 2021.  Aye being out is the biggest difference.

No idea what would be involved in making that happen, but that would be sexy as hell.
