Thanks for sharing that. You can't really get the context for those picks without watching that clip.

This is Dunfield's starting eleven for the opening match, not his ideal starting line-up, and to be fair he justifies those picks. He cites the recent injuries of Adekugbe and Henry as reasons they may not be match sharp, while rationalizing his choices for Kaye and Hutchinson in a way that makes sense.

In midfield, he likes Osorio and Arfield as the quarterbacks who can feed the ball to the attack. I see nothing wrong with that assessment. Piette picks himself really.

Up top, Dunfield thinks Cavallini is more suited for the Mexico match. He said David has been playing up top for Gent, but I question his accuracy on that. We have seen the line ups (though I haven't personally watched a Gent match since he sipposedly switched to midfield). He also wasn't accurate on Hoilett (he's scored 3 prem goals this year, not 1).

In goal, he seems to think it's a good way to get Crepeau action and reward him. In no way does he think Borjan is number 2. Talks about it as a way to get the transition process underway though.

Borjan was the keeper who got beat on a screamer from distance from Martinique in that very same stadium in the last seconds of the game. He will have a point to prove. I am sure he wants to play that game.

Who else was there for that game in 2013?

Crépeau as the starter for game 3 vs Cuba is my call.

I don’t recall this particular goal, and I’ve rarely played in net myself, but do keepers really hold a grudge when they’ve been fairly beaten? I always thought you needed to be able to brush those things off in that position. Goals are inevitable. Was this goal a mistake by Borjan?

The one thing I disagree with what Dunfield said is  that he said that Osorio is a lock for this team like Arfield. He'sa  lock for the 23, but for the XI? I don't think so.

I can’t watch the video at the moment, but our attack to start that match was Haber, Ricketts, Teibert, and de Guzmán with Johnson and Piette as CMs. I have to hope that any keeper we start now will now have a little more offensive support from the current squad than Borjan did here. Fingers crossed

We have never been this deep before, except for at Centre-Back. 

Its amazing to see the National Team have 30+ players to pick from and narrow that down to 23 and then 11. Has only grown from here thanks to CPL and will continue to do so

whats the best problem to have? Whil Herdman is probably scratching his head picking the team for final selections he must be pleased quality he has at his disposal, it all began in the 2017 GC with Zambrano

post Gold cup - Hutchinson will retire, Eustaquio will come into the fold, and hopefully we see one of C. Gutierrez or Fikayo Tomori switch their allegiance to Canada, which would be huge for WCQ's

Nice job @Blackjack15 , for me your best 11 is very close to mine, absolutely nothing wrong with yours. The only possible debates would be the LB position and Midfield.  It's hard not to imagine MAK, Piette, David not in our best/starting 11 this gold cup... at the same time your best 11 is very good.

Both of those are great.  Maybe use the first against a team like Mexico and the Second formation against some of the less formidable teams

Also it’s time for Millar and Tabla to break out and go dominate, it’s their time to shine. Crépeau is playing amazing but Leutwiler is playing in Championship, yes hes a backup but he trains with better players and he’s proven, should be a good battle for backup! Henry might be hurt so it’s toss up to replace him.

Thoughts:

- Tabla hasn't earned to be included in the 23 man roster

- I like Hainault over Straith, he'll be the bridge between James-Henry and Cornelius at CB. Certainly a short term solution, replaces Edgar in the last call up of leadership - Leutwiler over Thomas Definitely for the 3rd string GK role

- ZBG and Godihno at RB happy about and think Herdman will pick this duo although would be content also if Cordova is included 

- I don't see Teibert being left out of the team, he might be the last guy in the midfield but 23 caps is hard to argue with. Plus even if you were to replace him, Will Johnson would be the first choice then Wotherspoon.

- What is wrong with everyone? You all keep ignoring Tesho Akindele's form in MLS with Orlando City, he's more than earned his place! 

- Ricketts and Millar probably will be fighting over the last spot

Jackson Hamel lacks consistency, Edwards has been injured, Miller has had four '90 minute starts with OSC and more will come throughout the season, I think he's got a big future and is one to watch for at CB 

The only ones I feel bad for who would be on the team if it wasn't for the depth are:

Juan Cordova, Will Johnson, David Wotherspoon, Liam Millar and Stephen Eustaquio who is injured.

I really don’t like leaving Liam Millar out of the 23. Hope that doesn’t happen. He is absolutely in form, and has shown some incredible play the last couple months in the Scottish Prem. He was on of best players on the pitch in a game against Celtic. Including the Celtic players.

I’d much rather have a starting MLS Gk than a backup training with “better” players. Blackburn is only 15th place and a lot of MLS attackers are premier league level.

I highly doubt that Borjan has been holding a grudge for six years over that one.  It may have sunk our chances, but there is no way he was going to stop it.

Thanks for posting the rosters, I definitely can't wait to see it!

I will say though Liam Millar over Ricketts should happen in all universe. It is not just about the future, it is a choice for now. Millar and Wotherspoon are more useful to us now, and better for the future.
