The correlation is not incorrect, it is simple math.  What is up in the air is what is causing the correlation.  Are teams losing because they are playing lots of U-21 minutes, or are they playing lots of U-21 minutes because they are a losing?  Maybe the cause is explained by payroll, as mentioned above?  You can't blame the correlation for any inferences drawn from it.

Fair enough, I just thought someone might have dug deeper into the stats around U21 minutes and points

^ That is so depressing.

Valour very closely resembles FC Edmonton in their NASL days. An ownership group that won't invest in the club, a stadium unsuitable for professional soccer (for different reasons than Clarke), poor results on the pitch and a dwindling supporters group.

I'm not sure about this part. The numbers in that section seemed to grow over the course of the season. Down from year 1, but I don't think comparisons with year 1 support of any type are at all useful.

If they'd be willing to do the least bit of marketing this could be a well-supported team. They may not decide to re-invest the money in the squad but you think they'd at least try.

Earlier in the year Nicky from RRR mentioned they had lost 75% of their members from year 1, so I hope that they are recovering from that loss. When your hardcore support shrinks that much it's a bad sign.

I agree Valour have potential to be a good market, but without ownership investment, nothing else really matters.

The shitshow on the pitch that was the second half of year 1, I think, set back Valour as much or more than COVID. There was a great deal of patience and good will among the support and Gale and the team burned through it in a few months. I do think ownership is coming around a little (I did see a few actual attempts at marketing this year...), so hopefully results follow.

New rendering of the potential Surrey stadium. It’s a shame Rob Friend and the Vancouver CPL project opted for a competing venue down the road in Langley. The new BC Soccer headquarters/hub in Port Coquitlam also would have been a perfect intimate CPL stadium. I’m not familiar with BC’s soccer landscape but it seems everyone is pulling in different directions.

Sims thumped in the election.  A distant 4th.

Different mayor and council to deal with in Langley Township now apparently:

...and it's not clear anything was actually signed there yet in terms of leases, tenders etc.

It's my understanding from a friend who voted for this guy that he was the most right wing option. So I'm sure the soccer team is fine

Most right wing? Were the others running communists then? He ran for the left wing socialist NDP a couple of years ago.

Back to the local politics. While changes in Langford could have an effect (didn't help Pacific did a supreme bonehead endorsement of Stu), at Langley I'd say it'll be different. They have the WHL Giants and basketball Bandits at the Event Centre, a CPL team within 200 metres is part of a pack. No candidate will touch any of the three, understanding they are part of a broader policy that has general support.

More sponsorship money into the league*

*For those who don't understand why expansion fees are growing fast - that's a big why.

The more marketing revenue for CSB, the bigger the cheques amongst clubs, the more it helps with operational losses and in some cases could lead to breaking even or profit**

**Breaking even or profit implies that they have average attendance high enough and/or selling players.

***No, I'm no saying the league is swimming in cash, only saying it isn't as poor as people think

John Doyle of the Globe went to see HFX play vs York at York Lions stadium.

He opines that "it’s like family, this team, and that’s part of the key to grasping the meaning of the CPL – it’s about family, family relationships, nurturing and support. In the stands, too, there are many families, parents with multiple children, surrounded by York University students."

"I was happy to be here. I’ve covered soccer from 17 countries on four continents and the theatre of it, the thrill of it, was there that night. No goals, but a good night out and the feeling that the bedrock of men’s soccer in Canada is solid."
