Tyler Attardo has signed with P.O. Xylotymbou 2006 in Cyprus (2nd tier).

""At the request of PO Xylotympou, the ATTARDO TYLER SHAUN MASSIMO certificate was requested from the Federation of Chile. The certificate was received and the footballer joined the team."

I would not entirely underestimate Cyprus, and 2nd tier. At least as said they have links to their first division and to Greece.

Last Canadian player I know who was there was Andrew Lebre, who then transferred to Lithuania this past January, so has not played too much. Not sure what's become of him. All I recall was that his team played out of a fairly large stadium in Cyprus.

While we all know how good the CPL is at getting young talent through the door and getting them professional minutes, we also should also hope clubs and coaches remain more vigilant and prevent predatory agents pulling crap like this.

This was a huge issues in MLS in the mid 2000s to early 2010's with so many Americans getting shady agents who would send them to lower league Portugal and other places where their careers would go into limbo.

Don't really ever see players move up from the Cypriot 2nd tier, let alone the 1st division. What a strange move.

Should have never left Valour

This is a fine move if he wants to become a professional footballer in Europe; it's very hard for Canadians to make their way into European football, especially during a pandemic. Of course not many globally-notable footballers have come out of Cyprus yet, but Attardo doesn't need to be that. But if he happens to be the next Luka Jovic, Ricardo Laborde or Roland Sallai, that would be pretty fantastic for him.

That's definitely a strange move... Market value wise CPL teams are significantly more valuable than Xylotymbou and I'd figured the CPL is better league. But hey if he can light the league up he could hopefully move somewhere better like the Greek league or the Cypriot top flight.

Transfermarkt doesn't mean anything, the values are crowdsourced and only those of players in certain leagues are actually updated. Signing in a lower division in Scandinavia is also "strange" by the standard many seem to be using, but it's been an effective route into Europe for Canadian players for decades now, and this is ultimately no different.

Maybe it's a move like Henry made, to open the door to West Ham, through technicalities.

Attardo already has an Italian passport, so no. Considering the point of the transfer to Fernandez Vial was so he could be re-sold to a European club, it's likely that the pandemic hurt many of the clubs that would have been interested in paying a fee for him and P.O. Xylotymbou may have been one of the few still willing to pay something for the services of an essentially unproven Canadian teenager.

Someone sold him some swamp land...he could have stuck with Valor, got another season in to solidify he was a pro player, even though he was only 1 goal off Bustos for the team lead.  Then go to Europe with 2 CPL seasons (30+games) under your belt as a 19 year old.

He would have had a ton of Playing time at his preferred position with Valour's lack of attacking options. Hope this move works out for him.
