It's refreshing to see stuff like this on the league website:

https://canpl.ca/article/what-you-need-to-know-about-club-atletico-de-madrid-and-ottawa

...But, if there’s any one single takeaway from this new venture, it’s this – the world’s game has come to Canada, or, rather, Canada is being recognized as a soccer hub by the rest of the world. Financial investment into the growth of this sport, on this scale, by a club that can easily boast the sort of grandeur unlike most others? It’s a fantasy. It’s still surreal. And, come April, those red-and-white stripes will take on a Canadian tone, as the beautiful game grows in our own capital city.

Time to embrace being part of the global mainstream of the sport rather than going for the narrow walled-off exceptionalism mentality that was happening last year with the suggestion that there was an issue with diving that needed to be addressed before the world's greatest sport could be respected by Canadians.

I’m not quite sure how you’ve managed to turn that comment into an attack on a completely unrelated topic, but I can assure you that it’s not exceptionalism to state that diving in soccer is a hindrance to it being embraced by some Canadians

Honestly, the awkward segue made me laugh out loud in my living room while shaking my head.

You know what,  if you get to keep bringing it up I get to keep disagreeing.

Get rid of diving.

It’s a slippery slope. If we go after diving, where will it stop?

I'm inclined to agree with you.

Just to be clear, that was all tongue-in-cheek. Just saying, be careful what you ask for. I’m a believer in leveraging technology, but cautiously. Officiating decisions should be immediate and permanent. Perhaps the answer is, like basketball, get more officials on the field.

PS: For those that watched the Man City - Spurs game today, perfect example. Why the hell is a PK being called 30+ seconds after the referee allowed play to continue? If technology isn’t helping refs make those decisions live, then put more refs on the pitch or let the damn game go. Sorry, rant over. And totally off topic.

He goes on to say it’s not or he doesn’t know of anything related to the following;

- not salary cap

- not women’s league related

- not the schedule

- not a new sponsor

- not V cup

- not Quebec City or Laval

- not a signing

- not a coach

- not Roma related

The only thing it seems it could be is a One Soccer channel. Or that he doesn’t even know what it is, just that it’s a big thing coming.

Just how big is this thing?  Does the league have room to store it?  How heavy is it?  These are the questions the man in the street wants to know!

If Mediapro had a hand in brokering the Atlético deal, and they recently bought rights for the French league and, as announced last year, CPL will be shown on their French channels (as filler content, clearly), we should not be surprised if they have also brokered some kind of deal with a French club and CPL.

Hardly in-depth reporting!

What about:

Will it fit in Clanachan's basement, or do we need a storage locker?

Who can come help move it for pizza and beer?

Nef replied in twitter thread he doesn't know anything about a tv deal. He also said it is positive or negative depending on how you see it. He was unsure about a format change.

I'm writing about this so yes, MediaPro did help making this happen by introducing CPL to Atletico Madrid owners right after the MediaPro deal was done in Barcelona. Madrid was interested in an expansion into CPL for months but it took the Fury folding to pull the trigger with Jeff Hunt.

Very possible that the same was done with a French club...like Lyon

One thing he did let slip was that we shouldn't expect a Women's league until at least 2026.  Not that it's a big surprise ... personally I'd be more surprised at a women's league than promotion-relegation.

Hmmmm.  Quota limits changing maybe?

Looks like Nef has deleted the tweet. So either it was nothing and he felt bad for trolling or it was something so big he was told to kill it.

Or the CPL is trying to discredit him and found a way to troll him. A lot of his posts have been accurate and released ahead of the official announcement.

**** TSN. They picked up the XFL but arent interested in the CPL. The might have some sort of gentleman's agreement with the MLS to be fair.

Best case scenario for me is growing that relationship with CBC and getting w game of the week live every week on CBC tv and a soccer night in canada weekly show. CBC reaches more people than TSN or Sportsnet.
