CPL Stadium Thread

My take on York9’s Stadium it was actually not bad, it’s a very professional looking stadium and a professional feel to it. The whole game day set up is good , the beer and food selection is also very good like the food trucks being there too. Yes I hate the track and the smaller playing field but it’s not as bad as I imagined, I felt I was watching a game in some of the old stadiums back in the day in Europe with the running tracks around the field. Going forward if they can move that east metal stand over the running track and closer to the field and if they can extend the field  over the west side of the track closer to the west stands then you will have the stands on both sides closer to the field which will create better more intimate viewing of the game for the fans there. However, in the meantime it’s not as bad as I thought with the way it’s set up now. Now if only York9 can improve their play on the field it will give fans something to cheer about , but unfortunately I hate to say this but I don’t think this will happen until Brennan is gone , from experience I’m guessing that he is one of the reasons for their struggles. Brennan is a great salesman but should stay as far away as possible from the day to day running of this team on the field I’m sorry to say, let Isacco do the coaching and I’ll predict the fortunes on the field will change.

Pros: Great selection of craft beer with seemingly no macro swill, good food selection (although I didn't get chance to pertake as I wanted to), and relatively easy to move around.

Cons: No really indicators where your seats are upon entry, track between the pitch hampers the view, pitch is really small.

I am pretty sure they are widening the field and putting turf in for next season. I think York U is going to have the Football team play in that stadium and put a retractable dome for the winter. Having a bigger field will be nice but going to turf will suck. I dont know why they could keep one of their stadiums natural grass.

Maybe I heard it wrong but during the York 9 game, I thought the commentator said the field would be extended and it would be grass.

??

Hopefully. In the press release it said they would make it turf and put a roof on it for training all year round. That make no sense why not do that over on the other field and keep it for football.

These are all things that York University are doing for the Yorks Lions football and soccer teams and their intramural progams.

https://yorkulions.ca/news/2019/3/12/business-development-york-lions-stadium-track-field-course-getting-an-upgrade.aspx

York University will embark on a major transformation of the York Lions Stadium (formerly the 2015 Pan American Stadium) into a multi-use facility with artificial turf and an inflatable seasonal dome to support year-round activities and events.

...

The new multi-use facility will be available for additional sporting events such as football and soccer competitions year-round. It will allow for better utilization of the stadium and for improved athletics and recreation programs that service York students, staff and faculty...

Does anyone know how westhills stadium is coming along. I tried to look at the camera livestream but it was just a black screen.

From their instagram story of Kaden Chung from a few days ago, they had tarped off one of the wooden stands, and the other appeared to have seats installed. Not sure what is going on with the family zone section but last month they were laying the foundations.

It had a great cast but some of the plot twists were unrealistic. ;)

Overall, there were some scenes that were more intimate, and then the action opened up and you got the wider picture. Then there was the interesting nature-culture dialogue, thinking about the artificial surface and such. Also, there were those night episodes, which were eerie at times.

But would you answer the damn question for us @ted !! How is it coming?

Dunno, I haven't been out that way. You saw the pictures taken the other day in the other thread right?

It will be interesting to see what is out there on Sunday.

You know, aside from Lion's Stadium which is clearly a work in progress, and maybe THF, which I've never been a fan of all the CPL venures are looking pretty neat with lots of potential.

None are perfect, not by a long shot, this building has that advantage and this shortcoming but overall mostly positives.  And they're all fairly attractive, each in it's own way.  Certainly distinctive, you'll no mistake where the match is being broadcast from.

Lol its been in the same place since 1930. Used to be a 30,000 seat stadium now only 24,000 seats. If anything there is more parking available.

Ive lived in hamilton for 30 years. Always find a spot somewhere off barton within 10 min walking distance. I guess Hamiltonians have just become accustomed to the location and parking options.

Wish they built the new stadium at west harbor or confederation park, but whats done is done.

I couldn't agree more...it also has the feel of an old English stadium in the residential area. I'm obviously a little biased because I live in the area and pre-game (Forge and TiCats) I go to my brother's place who lives even closer and have some pints on his front porch and watch the fans walk to the stadium. It's a truly unique location and should be appreciated for what it is. I know I'm in the minority when I say that I was happy they kept it where it is. Love the atmosphere in the area on game days and especially enjoy the people watching.

Your brother has a beer tap at home?

I’m mixed on the location to be honest.  I’ve been living down here for 12 years and I like going to Ti-Cats games and of course  now Forge games.

I think the location near Bay St would have been a better location to be honest but there’s some real community feel to parking on someone’s lawn- having a beer and heading to the game.  It’s part of the character of the city even though the other location would have been better.

When they were talking about a Hard Rock Hotel and Casino plus the stadium all close to Copps I thought that was going to be great.
