  5. If we make the top 2 in our group, here are the likely teams we would need to face. The USA squad: http://www.ussoccer.com/stories/2020/03/u23-usmnt-head-coach-jason-kreis-names-usa-roster-for-2020-concacaf-olympic-qualifying-championship The Mexico squad: http://miseleccion.mx/noticias/3121/Convocatoria de la SNM Sub-23 para el Campeonato Preolímpico de Concacaf 2020 Both are obviously really full of talent. Haiti...gonna Haiti? They named a 22 player squad(???): http://www.facebook.com/fhfhaiti/photos/a.10152304888971188/10156966447196188/ I guess we wait until Friday and CONCACAF to find out the two players that are cut. Yup! http://canpl.ca/article/valour-fc-has-unfinished-business-to-take-care-of-as-training-camps-kicks-off No big surprise there. Love that Twardek seems to have built a release me for Olympic Qualifiers even though it is outside the FIFA window clause/deal into his contract. “We knew when we signed Kris this was a possibility. There was an understanding there between ourselves and Kris that if he was called into the squad he’d be available so there’s no issue." http://www.thesun.ie/sport/football/5181714/bohemians-keith-long-kris-twardek-canada/ Respect to him for that.

    Ballou Tabla

He had some really nice touches and surprised me with his acceleration. Great move to set up AJH who should have scored. Never going to be an energy guy racing up and down the wing but he is getting minutes and hopefully can get back to where he should be. Quioto had a horrendous game and Tabla was a significant upgrade yesterday

  10. This is all speculation, but there's good reason to believe that the club has signed Francisco Acuna, a 32 year old Mexican midfielder playing for Puebla in Liga MX. He has most recently followed both Atletico Ottawa and Ben Fisk on Instagram, he made a story yesterday that he was heading to Spain, and today it was made official that he was departing Puebla.

  11. Are we really playing to our strengths if we sacrifice a player further up the pitch just to play with an extra CB? That's our weakest position

  12. Also IIRC, in his last match in charge vs El Salvador we had to resort to calling guys like Elva, Bekker, Aleman and Schweitzer. Did it not clue into him .. “hey, how about they guy in Serie A I convinced?”

  15. Was there funny business with the POTY voting? I don’t know. He could’ve had the entire population of Collingwood voting for him. He was the only Y9 player to make the CPL best IX. Telfer was player of the year IMO. I could see not wanting to name you POTY as someone on loan from TFC though. Gasparotto and Ingham round out the podium. Abzi and Doner honourable mentions for me. Prediction for 2020 POTY is Ugarriza.

  18. Last speculative bit from instagram. Considering that he was most recently followed by 4 confirmed signings, it seems that 23 year old Ghanaian attacking midfielder Bernardinho is in the Ottawa camp. He has most recently been playing for a third division Belgian club, on loan from First Division Belgian Club KV Westerlo. As much as I typically take social media followings with a grain of salt, the team is in a training camp and thus clearly has players who are meeting with each other for the first time (including players who may not be officially signed or announced).

  19. Still speculating off of Instagram, but it seems that Jamaican international Tevin Shaw may also be in camp with Ottawa. He's a 23 year old midfielder with 6 senior international caps, who most recently played for Portmore United in Jamaica.

  21. There's really no arguing that the Scottish Championship is a higher level than the Irish Premier Division, and they have played a similar number of matches at those levels. Not to mention that Zanatta hasn't been a consistent starter in the Scottish Champ this season. But yes, Zanatta is normally a striker and Twardek is normally a RW/RM, and only occasionally plays on the left nowadays, so I don't think it makes sense to compare them in the context of the final roster. He can absolutely take players on 1v1, you seem to be basing your opinion on what you saw with the youth teams 2-4 years ago and I can assure you he has improved considerably in that time (and he wasn't bad back then), which is why he's now a key starter on one of the biggest clubs in Ireland. I think you're right in that he is a very different style of winger from our other options, who are mostly direct attacking players that usually try to beat their man and get into the box, whereas Twardek is a bit more of a conventional winger who usually looks to play in a good cross from out wide. But I don't think there's anything about the CMNT's style of play that means a player like Twardek "doesn't fit," in fact the different style of play he offers is exactly what makes him a shoe-in for the final roster since he adds a lot of flexibility to our attack on top of being one of the better wingers in the pool.

    Ballou Tabla

Agree that Tabla was better this time around. Seemed to dig a little deeper in the effort department. Quioto was very poor but I don't think Tabla is close to overtaking him yet because it is too early. He'll need to keep earning opportunities and make the most of them. Okwonkwo was the best player when he came on though. Him and Lappi seem to be the top wingers on this team currently, but Quioto and Tabla have the potential to be just as good. All four are pretty close talent wise, but whoever is most consistent will get the minutes.

  23. Look for Kacher to Ottawa today. That is his agency.

  24. The one thing Twardek has on all the others is experience. He has played almost 100 pro matches in Europe and has pretty extensive international experience between the Czechs and us. I don't mind him as an option in this squad.

  25. As imagined, the CSA is being panned by people on Twitter because of Zombrano's comments. Which is so unfair. Octavio is right to be pissed about how he was dismissed and if I remember correctly, he's already tweeted negative things about the CSA. I find it hard to believe he actually got a solid confirmation about Cristante, and I find it especially hard to believe his agent was pushing his client to take up Canada at that age (as if agent's words means anything).

  27. They hurt themselves digging a hole in the 1st half as Thierry mentioned by getting schooled. However in the second half they got CONCACAFed Like who’s the referee here? The man on the spot who without hesitation made the call or the guy on the line yards away!? Man this region really gives me the creeps. Like Liam Neesons said in Rob Roy “best be no skullduggery here”

  28. Damn, who gave him that guarantee to be in the squad? I haven't been impressed with what I've seen from him, and was hoping to see someone else tbh. I knew there would be snubs, but wasn't thinking it would be for him. He's not very versatile.

  31. I hear that, but I also enjoy seeing other souls at a soccer game aside from a massive wall of empty seats. If those temp bleachers weren't so stranded and were wider, actually linking up with the other permanent seats maybe it would work. Also if the nearest section of seats wasn't all tarped off maybe you could have made it a lot more cohesive, visually appealing, and less isolated. It would also serve to make it look much more intimate. As it stands now, if attendance is good, it's hard to get more supporters than what's in section W. If you had a big area behind the net that was GA people could more easily move into that area and it could organically grow over time.

    The Road to Qatar.

I think we should put this dream of El Salvador agreeing to play us to bed. I see no chance they agree to that, unless somehow they are behind on points. But then why would we do it....

  37. I'm going to give my controversial Y9 take that I've never said before, just so people can jump on me on this topic instead My take is, there is no freaking way Morey Doner should have won Y9 PotY. That's got to be some online vote that his friends and family must have helped out. Yes, Doner was a very very solid defensive player, one of the best defenders and tacklers we have for sure, he made his flank an island vs wingers at times. Doner Island. But offensively, he was one of the worst among the starters we had. People seem to remember that one rocket volley he had, and he got a few assists off regular ass crosses, any fullback should get at least a couple. But his technique, his dribbling, his crossing, etc, I've been watching Y9 replays offseason, about to watch another one tonight, and in my mind, there is zero way Doner should have won Y9 PotY. I'd have given it to Luca or Ingham. They definitely had their share of errors mid-season, but overall, you could tell those two were the reason why our defense was so rock solid all year long. A shout to Telfer for his obvious super-talent, and Abzi for his overall skills.

  42. Just not working tactically in the first half of this olimpia match..piette taider wanyama together in the middle without someone else in the playmaker role is just not working..even taider is more defensive minded..little creativity and not a strong dribbler and not quick..now down 0-2 at home they should go to a back 4 right away and put urruti or quioto as a 10 and bring in jackson or okwonkwo and pull out a cb

Also not worried about it. Things will return to normal in due time. I don't anticipate that clubs in the higher echelons that are willing to dish out +€20M on a single player will suddenly curtail their spending. In fact, smaller clubs like Gent are more likely to be affected, so that may actually encourage the selling of players such as David.

  47. I don't blame you for thinking Swangard would be ideal. It certainly appears that way, sitting between two stations (about a five-minute walk), nice view of the mountains and trees, and a great location far enough away from BC Place Toilet, but just across the street from Vancouver in the city of Burnaby. However, it has one down side, which is the City of Burnaby. They won't let anyone touch that track, and they're not very footie-friendly. When there used to be World Cup Qualifiers there, Canada couldn't practise the there because the away team (rightfully so) would demand the opportunity to have a run out on the pitch, and the knuckle-scrapers at Burnaby City Hall would say, "That's enough. You can have a match and someone can run on it for an hour or so. Otherwise, get lost." The PNE, where Empire Field was, was another great location. That temporary stadium was almost as nice as the original Empire Stadium, and with a much better pitch. The turf at Empire Stadium was 500 area rugs from Ikea of various shades of green, stapled together. I digress. You're right, that was another excellent location, other than public transport. Since tearing down the stadium, the PNE (similar to Toronto's CNE, I presume) has done a bunch of very careful landscaping and other crap to make the area look as if someone's done some very careful landscaping. You know, an obviously placed shrubbery here and there, and some fakey-looking bridge that doesn't really go over anything except the level ground underneath it. Nice job, if you like that sort of thing. I think they left one fake turf field, with no room for any stands.

What left-wing extremists? I can't remember the last time I saw a Marxist or Communist protest or anything! Yet no one would deny that white extremists are active. Why create straw men? And what does this have to do with new soccer teams?
