I think the last window brought us back down to Earth with the 2 losses.

That's partly why some questions are coming out now.

Don’t really think this was a big deal TBH.  Sure, a couple of the judgement calls can be questioned (like Ugbo and Millar’s exclusion) but we lost the first game largely as a result of the early red card IMO, and it was always going to be ridiculously tough to win away to Panama after coming down from the emotional high of qualifying at home just days before.  I don’t think that window said a lot about Herdman other than raising a couple of questions about selection criteria.

Of course the goal posts are being shifted.  Buchanon turned into a star last summer, another new solid offensive threat that even the mexicans were afraid of, Kennedy proved he was real CB and someone we could count on.  These new young guys are filling in the pieces we were missing.  Seemingly everytime we turn around a new young guy is stepping up (at his club) and giving Herdman more options.  Now Kone looks like he might be another viable midfield option, its like Herdman is in a John Wo shoot out movie and the props guy keeps giving him bigger and bigger guns every scene.   He is still jumping through the clouds of pigeons and blasting the baddies 2 fisted style though, cant take that away from him.

I don't really buy the golden generation excuse.

You take Davies away from Canada and then compare our team to the USA. So who has the more golden generation? When it comes to the number of top players the states has it over our program yet we just tied them away and beat them at home. The huge difference: John Herdman. Just listen to the people who are closest to this program: the players. All the players give props to Herdman for turning this program around.

The fact that Herdman has been fortunate with circumstances and he has done a really good job are not mutually exclusive. People need to stop pretending like they are.

People are going to praise him to the degree they feel is right. It is a individual decision. There is no right or wrong answer. It seems weird how offended people get by this decision.

What's the saying again?   you have to be good to be lucky and you have to be lucky to be good.  The one I subscribe to is:  a good coach cant do much with poor talent but a poor coach can really screw up a team with good talent.  I also believe that coaches often get overpraised at times and get over-blamed at other times.

Which is why i always find it hard to really judge our MNT coaches from 1996 to 2014.  That's because they really didn't have the talent in the key areas of the game.   From 2014-2018, I believe that we just had poor coach.   poor because:  there was a language barrier (poor communication), not accustomed to the realities of working in Canada & Concacaf,  inflexible and not adaptable,  nepotistic, set in old European ways,  excluded a player who could have helped us,  came from the wrong professional background etc etc etc

Naw! Pantemis has fallen behind St Clair and Hasal and I would say even Breza on the national front. It wouldn't surprise me if next season Sirois doesn't jump ahead of Pantemis.

Would be interesting to contrast this with 2018.

As I feel that it took having competition from CPL for the 3 teams to finally take playing Canadians seriously

That may be a factor, but you'd also have to take into account the maturing of the three academies.

Having a bigger pool of MLS-ready players to choose from inevitably leads to more of them being chosen. For Toronto specifically, the 2002s-2005s were always seen as the "best" of the academy cohorts thus far, going back 4-5 years now.

Those would be the first batch of kids who always had a local (TFC )team and local players to look up to.  From Attakora-Henry-Osorio..kids like Nelsen and JMR have always known it was possible for a kid from Brampton (hehe) to get to the top in MLS.

Totally forgot to post this a few weeks back, but one thing that I had to laugh at and saw at the Canada Jamaica game at BMO a few weeks back . I was sitting on the west side second tier section 226 when I saw probably some newbie to probably soccer trying to start the wave lol, a few people tried to join in but many and me included started yelling wrong sport lol . Thankfully it never got started . The poor guy who tried to start it look bewildered why no one wanted to join in lol .

No worries....I did the same thing at my first Valour game and got the same bewildered looks.  "You know....OLE.....like in Mexico......anyone anyone???"  Of course having fans on only half the stadium didnt help.

It was at least being done in the NHL and MLB in the very early eighties

First video documented one:

I only know this because I have had this discussion with English fans who call it the Mexican wave, when I grew up calling it just the wave, obviously.
