Only thing I'd say is that he needs to have the confidence to pass and cross with both feet. When you are in a wide wing position, you absolutely have to give yourself that option.

Not just Johnston--tired of seeing guys with one crossing foot always having to turn onto it on the wing, and worse when they've made the move to get some space either deep or cutting in. Then squandering the move by turning back to the old reliant "good" foot.

Phonzie still does not have it, and like many "immature" players, he uses his good leg to make the big move to gain space on the defender, which means the ball is shifted boldly over to his right foot, which he then can't use except for the easiest of back passes.

Some players never learn others do. I distinctly remember how marvellously Abidal learnt at Barça, he taught himself in a few months and it was patently obvious he'd worked on it.

I was going to say this, thanks for bringing it up. I would like him to get more confident with his left foot, he's limited by his over-reliance on his right.

His statline last night was crazy. 1.1 xA, created 7 (!!) chances, 4 "big" chances, Fotmob MOTM. Agree re: the dependence on the right foot is something I hope he works on. His biggest chance yesterday, where he crossed it with his right foot, I think if he was more confident with his left, he could've had a goal there. If he moves up to a bigger league, he won't have as much space to navigate, so that's a pretty crucial skill he needs to sharpen (not that I am the best talent evaluator around or anything...).

Not sure what to make of this. Decent move for sure as Celtic will always be in European competitions due to how non competitive it’s domestic league is but I think AJ can move to a decent side in a better league

Yes. But a stepping stone to a better league in europe. Think the league is lateral step at best from the mls.

He does well at Celtic lots of options will open to him. This is where Wanyama, Van Dijk and others cut their teeth before going to place like the Premier League or Ligue 1.

Wanyama and VD were much younger when they started at Celtic. People forget that Ali isn’t a kid - he’s 24. He’s good enough to move to a better league now IMO. You never know what happens when you make an intermediate move like this - maybe it doesn’t work out, maybe he gets stuck there etc.

if he has the chance at a better league (and I don’t know for a fact whether he does or doesn’t) I would think that’s the better move.
