Simon Thomas

Just catching up on Simon Thomas' club situation. It appears that Thomas is now the clear starting keeper for FK Bodo/Glimt and has started the last four matches in which he was healthy (2 before his injury and now 2 afterward).

The loan of their original starting keeper Halldorsson appears to have ended on July 18th, returning to his original club only to be sold/transferred to a Danish club. Bodo/Glimt then signed a Ukrainian keeper Pogorily, who started games until Simon's return from injury, and now seems to be the club's backup.

Great to see a Canadian secure a starting spot, after being relegated to a back-up role at the beginning of the season.

Bodo/Glimt are currently 4 points safe from relegation with 7 games remaining, so the next step is confirming that they will be in the Tippeligaen in 2017.

Bodø/Glimt were relegated and Thomas still has two more years on his deal. If he stays he will be playing at the same level he was in 2015 where he got more playing time (with Strømmen) then he did this year. I won't be too upset, as long as in 2017 he matches the playing time he was getting in 2015 or better.

Call him to camp Poutine.

Little update on Thomas' club situation.

Bodo/Glimt have clinched promotion back to the top flight with 4 games remaining in the season. Conveniently, Thomas has started the last 2 games and will likely get some action in the remaining 4. I think he has one year left on his deal, so perhaps fighting for a starting spot in the top flight next year is in the cards?

Not sure what other options would be out there until CPL starts up.

Also, looks like he just got engaged. Congrats!

sounds like an ideal situation if he's got 1 year left. Fight for the starting job in Norway and if you don't get it the CPL will be there in 2019 and he'll likely be a top target for all the teams in the league as a domestic starting level keeper. I don't know how much of a pay cut he'd need to take though.

He might not beat Bush, but I think the Impact will have more confidence in him, he'll get a chance to compete and maybe see more than 1 cameo a year (like Crepeau). More likely we see Beaulieau or Pantemis make their way to CPL and who knows where Crepeau will end up?

They trust Thomas to be a good professional and wait for his turn as a good back up. That would be Montreal expectation with this move.

Crepeau wants to starts and should get the opportunity to do so, that's why he won't stay in Montreal.

Then Montreal wonders why they have attendance problems and can't make money. You pick the American over the local guy...Go figure...

He has made the last few starts for Tromso as their #1 got hurt.

Same level Nelson plays at.

He was in net today for a 2-1 win over Staebek

On the bench today vs Brann, and has pretty much been pinned to the bench since this comment. It would be nice to have an experienced backup for our pool. Hope he can get some starts in.

Ya. He only started for a few weeks while their #1 was out injured.

We also have Leutwiler backing up in English League One these days if you are looking for someone with experience

Meant to post this a couple weeks ago. But congrats to Thomas as Tromso finished 3rd in Norway and will enter the Conference League qualification. It is their best result since 2011. Thomas was the backup, but played a critical role winning the 3 games he player while the #1 was out injured.
