How do I say this nicely. Shut the %#^* up! šŸ˜…

It never makes sense to move our best attacker away from the final third. Until guys show that they are better than Davies itā€™ll make sense.

Ā Plus everyone knows that Davies isnā€™t really a good defender.Ā

Here's another way to say it:

there was a time not too long ago when many said it was crazy to even compare Pulisic and Davies. One poster even berated Davies for his poor skill on the ball during his early tenure with VW. Just need to be patient with young players and if they are in the right environment they can reach their ceiling in short order. Obviously Davies is an exceptional talent

Wonder what's this about. He works for OneSoccer now so I'm assuming he has at least *some* connections.

EDIT: It's probably regarding Luca Koleosho.

I know that with the recent hype and rumours, this is likely Koleosho but part of me hopes that itā€™s actually another American-Canadian dual nat: Chituru Odunze.

still only 19 years old and has been called to the senior USMNT already. Heā€™s really close with a bunch of the guys on FC Edmonton, so I figure heā€™s pretty strongly connected to the country still. After Sloninaā€™s commitment to the USA, it seems like a good fit.

The amount of guys called up for the 3 games .

Over or under 26.

I say under.Ā

Called it....CSA likes to save when it can, and that means no exceeding to many call ups.

......Or maybe it's 26 with Campagna being the off/on roster player.

Canadians in MLS - Weeks 11, 12 & 13

Hopefully a bit of a distraction to the disappointing news about the Canada game vs Iran being cancelled.

Montreal was able to extend their unbeaten run in MLS to 8 games before losing their last two.Ā  Vancouver went 1-1-1 over the three games while Toronto FC only played twice, earning a draw while losing the other.

Of note, Breza did earn a shutout in their 2-0 victory, while Alistair Johnston was able to score his first goal of the season.Ā  In Vancouver, there was a debut for teenage keeper Max Anchor.Ā  Cavallini scored two goals and provided an assist over the 3 game span.Ā  Gutierrez also provided his first assist of the season.Ā  In Toronto, on his return, Osorio scored off a Peruzza rebound.Ā  Meanwhile Akinola seems to be rolling into form and scored his first of the season.

Iā€™m sorry but I have to vent , when I see the US play two quality opponents and we are stuck playing Panama , this pre World Cup campaign has been completely a joke so far . The guy that thought playing Iran was a good idea should be fired on the spot, moreover, anyone at the CSA that thought it was a good idea to play Iran should also go. Moreover, why didnā€™t they have a second game lined up after they scheduled the Iran game , the US has. Instead because of the CSA incompetency we are left playing Panama . Instead of building up momentum to our first World Cup since 1986 the general public is talking about the shambles that was organizing a game against Iran . This is what you get when you donā€™t have proper professionals working at your governing body. Sorry but this has been a complete joke ever since we qualified .

It's more than likely Herdman had a big hand in selecting Iran

I don't blame the CSA, or whoever had the idea at the CSA, for not anticipating the political shit storm, but I do blame them fully for not having a second friendly already planed. I want to know the reasoning to play a single friendly. The USA managed to get Morocco and Uruguay, and I know we aren't the USA, but couldn't we have gotten Iran and Colombia, or Chile, or hell even Bolivia? The plan from the get-go to only have a single friendly is what irks me the most from all of this. Credit to them for moving mountains to secure Panama at the final hour, but it was a blunder of their own making to begin with. It's like they played the role of both fire fighter and arsonist.

I would be very surprised by that. JH seems to be a very intelligent and detail oriented person. I assume, if he had a hand in planning he would have considered all angles including the resulting perception of the team. He's talked a lot about being proud to be Canadian and wear the maple leaf, he's talked a lot about getting the country to believe in them and he's talked a lot about pride and honour in the team and what they do. Scheduling a game against Iran seems to contradict so much of what he's said it doesn't make sense to me.

The CSA leadership on the other hand, and specifically NB, seem to be incapable of not shooting themselves in the foot. This is exactly what you'd expect them to do, team popularity on a meteoric rise? Schedule a game against Iran and have a bunch of Canadians question your decision making.

Who knows though, it's all speculation.

He can't have it both ways. He can't be a detail oriented guy that plans everything meticulously but then not have a hand in putting together the Iran friendly.

Unless there's a disconnect between him and the CSA leadership.

That's an unfair link based on nothing. You made an assumption about him and I'm just posing an alternative viewpoint.

We know the players didn't want to play against Iran so it's possible that JH didn't want to either.

I think its pretty fair. We let the guy control every last detail. Except choosing Iran? Hard to believe.

The truth is often somewhere in the middle.

JH can be a very intelligent and detailed oriented person, having a hand in planning and considering all angles including the resulting perception of the team.

The CSA can be an organization that lived up to their reputation by scheduling a game against Iran and having a bunch of Canadians question the decision. Both of these things can be absolutely true.

We know that JH is a risk taker. There's no reward without risk in this world. Risk takers gauge risk on perceived probability of outcome, so maybe JH considered the probability of this backfiring to be low, relative to the expected reward. As for the CSA, perhaps they likewise saw the possible reward as being worth the risk. Although all we can do is speculate, as you said, we can be fairly certain the decision was jointly made by Herdman and the Canadian Soccer Association.

I find it hard to believe that JH was against the decision and simply went along to get along.

I thought Wheeler already essentially confirmed that Herdman wanted to play Iran while the US played Morocco as an intended quid pro quo between Berhalter and Herdman?

Even if he hadnā€™t I am also of the view that it would be almost inconceivable that he would have not been behind it to some, if not a large extent. Also the players only became against it after they got wind of potential protests happening in the stands, there is no suggestion that they were not in favour of it to begin with, in fact it was the opposite with Cavallini defending the choice.Ā

At risk of opening the whole can of worms again, I want to remind you (and anyone else reading) the players reportedly never wanted to play the game after the media backlash got out of hand. Rightly so that our players wouldn't want to get caught up in negative optics, or worse.

Prior to things getting out of hand, Cavallini went on record and basically said that Trudeau can have his own opinions, but he just wants to bring soccer to the people and prepare for the world cup.

I mean, 50,000 people bought tickets to the game and presumably thought the game would go ahead. It's not inconceivable that Herdman thought the game was a realistic possibility and wanted to play it before the backlash came.

Wheeler didn't confirm this. Oliver Platt started it by pointing out the friendlies and the World Cup groups and hypothesized that maybe they were planning on exchanging notes. Wheeler liked that theory and kept mentioning it, but never confirmed that he heard it from a source, just always saying it was a possibility that it was the case.

I posted a podcast link several weeks back. Ā It was an interview Bontis gave to a sportsnet radio drive home show. A day or two after qualifying for the WC.Ā

In that interview that Bontis said that Herdman would have final say who we play friendlies against.

Edit: Ā here it is. Ā
Interview with Bontis starts at 40:15

Answer about who we play in friendlies is at 46:01

That same radio show (when Andi Petrillo was guest hosting) pointed out that the Iran game needed the approval of the stadium brass (i.e. BC government) as well as the federal government.Ā  They got the green check marks from both.Ā Ā  There is more than one group responsible for scheduling that game, including politicos who should have known better than the CSA.

At first many members here disagreed with that observation. I'll bet not too many will speak up now.
