Canadian midfielder Victor Loturi ‘agrees to join Ross County’

Ross County have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Canadian midfielder Victor Loturi.

According to the Scottish Sun, Malky Mackay has landed the 21-year-old from Calgary-based Calvary FC – who play in the Canadian Premier League – ahead of the Staggies’ pre-season trip to Verona, Italy, next week.

Loturi has played for Calvary since 2019, although he took 2020 off to focus on his studies at Mount Royal University before returning to professional football with the Alberta club.

Now he looks set to be one of County’s first two signings of the summer window – with English midfielder Yan Dhanda also expected sign on in the coming days after leaving Championship outfit Swansea City.

Loturi would join Canadian brothers Harry and Ben Paton on County’s books – should the former midfielder put pen to paper on a new deal.

Mackay’s squad work over the last few days has also included new deals for David Cancola and Alex Iacovitti, but the Staggies are still looking to replace the firepower lost by the departure of last term’s key man, Regan Charles-Cook.

They have also been linked to a move for Sheffield United goalkeeper Jake Eastwood.

Kind of crazy that Ross County plays its first official matches on July 9 with League Cup action.

They start SPL on July 30

Good looks. I had somewhat been expecting a loan back to Cavalry for a few months, but if that’s the case I’d have to imagine camp starts in the next two weeks.

The transfer market will barely be open before the League Cup starts

He's already with his new club.

The Scottish transfer window must open earlier than July 1. Which makes sense since they start earlier than other leagues

If Paton does stay it will be interesting to see how the two compare.

We know Paton has been hanging around the edges of the senior team, but we haven't talked about Loturi in that vein, and for good reason of course, since he's basically just one of many young prospects in the CPL.

If Paton stays and Loturi matches him in minutes and performances, where would he fit in our depth chart and what would that say about other similar prospects in the CPL who haven't yet had the chance to move abroad?

One thing to add is that it seems Scottish football fans are say Mackay will be a good coach for him and other youngsters and he has shown an ability to unlock their next level and make players even better.

Could be great for him. (And the likes of Ben Paton).
