In the 7 years I have been recording Montreal leads the way with 58215 minutes, followed by USA with 57552, Toronto at 51935 and Vancouver just behind at 51784.

So you're saying the Whitecaps still hate Canada? 😀

Canadians in MLS

The last breakdown of the year for Canadian's in MLS.  I don't have the entire history of data for MLS but I would bet that we set many records for Canadians this season including most goals, assists, minutes and active players.

By the numbers (approximates):

52,749 - The total number of minutes played by Canadians this season.  In comparison to 2021 (45,404) 2020 (26,227) 2019 (31,309).

51 - The total number of Canadians who played in the MLS Regular season.  In comparison to 2021 (45) 2020 (41) 2019 (32).

60 - The number of goals scored by Canadians this season.  In comparison to 2021 (44) 2020 (35) 2019 (42).

66 - The number of assists provided by Canadians this season (including St Clair).  In comparison to 2021 (53) 2020 (27) 2019 (36).

Canadian Player Minutes by Club

Montreal - 12,993 minutes - 16,053 minutes including Goalkeeping

Toronto - 14,954 minutes

Vancouver - 7,615 minutes - 9,440 minutes including Goalkeeping

US MLS Teams - 5,919 minutes - 11,724 minutes including Goalkeeping

Osorio's goal involvements are ridiculously good given his relative lack of playing time. He probably should've been invited to the All-Star Game over Carles Gil.

Love having as many Canadians playing as possible obviously, but the fact that TFC has the most non-goalie minutes for Canadians, yet the top 5 Canadians per minutes all play elsewhere might be a good sign that TFC is maybe playing the wrong Canadians, haha.

I don't follow the Whitecaps much, but I'm surprised to see Teibert as the 4th most minutes.

RDS aired a Qatar preview show last night. Direction Qatar will be on again Saturday at 915 EDT just before Canada plays Japan in u17 WWC.

But they have posted 2 interviews. One in English with Tino Lettieri - learned him & Segota were suspended for France match because they missed the ferry to Victoria for a practice. Second is with French keeper Joel Bats who was also a coach with CFM.

IMO our top 21 players pick themselves, Kone of course being the latest and last guy to play himself onto the team and possibly onto the pitch in Qatar.

5 spots left.  Squad players highly unlikely to see the pitch.  Of the following list, 5 will make the team.  5 will be left out.  Who you got?

Ugbo - A regular on the squad since he chose Canada, but do we need to bring a 4th striker?  Probably.

Millar - A regular the entire cycle.  Not a difference maker but I'm sure it's useful to have his speed and quality out there to keep our defenders sharp in training.

Henry - Our enforcer.  Needs to be in that dressing room.  Herdman likes his leadership.  If he's healthy he's on the flight.

Corbeanu - Currently playing the best soccer of his career.  Will be a very important player next cycle, would be good to give him the experience.

Cornelius - I trust him on the pitch more than Henry and Waterman.  But, how many centre backs do we need?

Wotherspoon - It breaks my heart to leave him out, but with his injury and the rise of Kone I don't think there's a spot for him unless Osorio is ruled out due to injury.

Waterman - Limited, but good at what he does.  Having a great run with the Impact.  Familiarity with Piette, Miller and Johnston could see him sneak in.

Brym - Should not be on this list but he's undoubtedly a Herdman project for the future.

Edwards - Having a career year with LA.

Fraser - Has played above expectations every time he's put the Canada shirt on.

One thing for Waterman is he's arguably the best passer in the pool.

I was looking at the list of players the other day and wondering who would be the difference makers at Qatar. Here's what I can up with. In no particular order. These are the players  I think will be definite stand outs.

Buchanan

Kone

Eustaquio

Vitoria

Davies

David

Larin

If it comes to pass that a couple of others will come forth and shine (Hoilett, Johnston, Miller) all the better for our chances to move on from the round of 16 to the quarter finals. :-).

This is one I have to disagree with. Henry was useful in concacaf when having an enforcer like him was beneficial, even necessary. Along with concacaf's hostile environments, we were seen as a team who could be pushed around, stepped on, bullied, and rightfully so. However, these hostile environments, as well as any remaining vestige of a meek and mild Canada, are long gone. Henry's services are no longer needed. I would even argue that, as things stand right now with this team, any one of our guys would step into that enforcer role if the situation called for it. No hesitation. And unlike Henry, they would most likely do so without the constant threat of going overboard (Cava excluded lol). The fact that he hasn't played in forever and couldn't get mins on TFC is enough to leave him off.

If our keeper isn't on that list we're screwed 😉
