How many players are they up to now in the squad? 9?

Surely have to sign at least 6/7 permanently. Can't all be loans.

Scary with the clock counting down to kick off and pre season surely starting this week.

For the moment:
4 signed

3 on loan

2 potential U-sport dradft pick

Not surprising he ends up in Edmonton after Pacific had second thoughts about bringing him in on loan and bailed after they had announced it. Luke will likely have a better chance for regular playing time with the Eddies anyway. Not sure what that says about him though.

While they currently have no midfielders rostered, the FCE roster is shaping out better than I expected considering the circumstances. There are a lot of options that could be on the cusp on a breakout, and the youthfulness compared to past seasons should at least be exciting.

The High Ceiling Centreback Duo: N'sa and Singh

Felix N'sa is still 18 but has been around a pro environment during the last two summers. Centreback is probably York's biggest position of depth considering they have his brother, Thompson and Zator. This is finally clear path for Felix to take a step forward.  Luke Singh isn't much older, but with 5 MLS starts under his belt last season he should bring some pedigree across the backline.

A deep attacking line

There are a number of options up top that have the pedigree for a breakout CPL season:

Tobias Warschewski was already one of the brighter spots last season. Just 24, he has 40+ caps in 3.Liiga, the same league where we've called guys like Adam Straith, Caniggia Elva and Andre Hainault to our national team in the past.

Julian Ulbricht got his fair share of appearances with York last year, but the previous season he spent as Warschewski's teammate in Germany so you might hope there is an existing chemistry.

Mamadi Camara might be the biggest hopeful, seemingly high-rated everywhere but yet to prove himself offensively as a professional. If he can reach the form he had when San Jose/Vancouver brought him in, he'll be a real threat in the CPL.

Masta Kacher was a pretty prominent scorer in the USL but hasn't had significant minutes yet in the CPL, definitely a signing that could work out.

The question marks

GK: Connor James has arguably been FCE's second brightest star over the CPL era, but his departure leaves a sizeable gap at the back. Do they trust the youth movement with Murasiranwa, or bring in a steadying veteran (ie. Farago loan)?

Midfield: Currently the only "midfielders" are guys like Kacher/Camara who can play a bit behind the attacking line if needed. Typically, FCE hasn't had a very dynamic midfield but right now they're even missing the steadying presence of a Shome, Soria, Zebie, etc.

I think we're sure to see some surprises out of this roster, and potentially a better than last place finish.

I thought the same thing. Camara and Higgins are both only a year or 2 removed from being MLS draft picks. So they are decently rated and would be a good pickup for any CPL team.

It definitely read like the player was a big part of the reason the Pacific loan deal fell through.

Agree with the latter take with Robert Boskovic being another example. Bob Bradley clearly must have rated Lukas MacNaughton more than he did Luke Singh making the latter surplus to requirements but Jozy Altidore was the only contract they could buy out this off season.
