Valour  2000 - heading in the wrong direction

York  1000 - still a failure in the stands

Valour seems to have increased their marketing so I'm thinking somewhat the same

York will fix their attendance once they move to Woodbine but most likely more or less the same

FWIW, I talked to folks from the Cavalry front office at last night's jersey launch, and they said they were almost level with season ticket sales at this point last year. So I'd expect their attendance to be relatively flat this year compared to last unless there is a big rush when the Flames are eliminated from the playoffs in a few days. Maybe some small growth at best.

Cavalry have already "sold" over 1000 tickets to their preseason friendly this Saturday. This is with very little notice and Easter plans preventing lots of people going. Not sure how relevant that is but take it for what it's worth.

As for predictions I predict that I will tell the parrot to buy a ticket or shut the fuck up at least once in this thread.

Don't think there's any reason to presume that fudge factor is consistent from city to city, season to season or even game to game given special promotions can and do happen, which is why eyeballing what is actually happening in the stands provides a useful indication of what's really going on. Halifax usually looks genuinely close to full when the announced number says it should be, while some of the other cities appear more generously announced. We are basically going to have to agree to disagree on this.

The fudge factor is probably more consistent than the eyeballing method since eyeballing will be done irregularly by different people through a combination of TV and in person estimating.  No data is perfect but the best, and easiest, data is to use the reported numbers and go from there.

Regardless, I'm hoping some of my attendance predictions are wrong and we see a marked upswing across the board.

I'm still hopeful that getting a deal to have Onesoccer carried by Rogers than Bell & Videotron (Quebec) will help make a difference in attendances. Too many casual simply have no idea this league is going on, not because they chose to snub it knowing it existed and after trying it.

I know a lot of people that will get their first taste of CPL thanks to FuboTV since they carry EPL, Serie A and Ligue 1 - lots of people subscribed to the service. My dad was pleasantly surprised that he could finally follow all National Team games on top of England, France and Italy. His christmas gift (Fubo subscription) will allow him to also watch CPL and make his own idea on whether he'd be willing to go see them whenever they get a club in the Montreal area.

Should there be a deal, CPL would have more games on cable than MLS due to the Apple deal. Add all Champions League games, Canadian Championship and even League 1 Canada cup (hopefully)

Let that one sink in.

I'll predict that the announced numbers will show an increase regardless of whether actual attendance does and any attempt to discuss what is happening rationally will be shouted down by people who are more motivated by nationalism than by soccer.

You haven't had a rational thought in this forum.

For this year I'm thinking:

Halifax 5500 - will be soft (for them) early on but rise as the team does better

Atletico 5500 - continuing last year's success and getting back to the best of Fury level crowds

Calgary 3500 - drifting along

Forge 3500 - disappointingly no meaningful increase despite continuing on field success

Pacific 3500 - a small but perceptible rise

Valour  2000 - heading in the wrong direction

York  1000 - still a failure in the stands

Vancouver  3000 - biggest range of crowd sizes

Edmonton 0 - even worse that last season

With the kind of team Forge puts out every season so far they should be topping the 5000 mark . This team has been class every year so far , I actually thought they would lose that final in Ottawa last season with all the hype surrounding that game and with a very decent home field advantage Ottawa crowd in attendance . However, they came out and just showed what a class team they are and took care of business. I still think if Forge played in a nice 5 to 10000 soccer friendly stadium they could easily get to 5000 on average and even more . I’ve been to TMHF and  that place does not do this great team justice unfortunately. I know why they play there and that’s where they will stay ,but put them in a stadium like the new Vancouver team is going to play in watch the attendance rise .

A lot of people signed up for Fubo last year, when the EPL first switched and offered an introductory rate.  I'm not sure how much of an additional bump in attendance that would result in this year.

We will need to see what the OneSoccer deal is with Rogers/Bell.  If it's similar to SN World or BEIN, it's an improvement but not the same as being on SN or TSN.

Yes, reported attendance should be viewed as the benchmark. But an eye test is needed for North American pro leagues.

As seen with MLB teams (ex the A's so far this year), they don't want to show reported attendance is below AAA attendance to save face. So, by the 2nd inning, if attendance is tabulated as 4k, they will buy 8k in tickets at $1 to boost reported attendance to 12k. Years ago, the Florida Marlins bought 40k tickets at $1 for the last game of the season to avoid being having the worst MLB attendance for the season.

Not really sure how Woodbine fixes York's problem. York Lions Stadium is very accessible, its directly across the street from a subway station and parking is plentifully. York has a lot to figure out, they are a wink link in the CPL. I am TFC season ticket holder living at Yonge and Eglinton, it takes me the same amount of time on public transit to get to York as it does to get to BMO Field. Regardless it is an uphill battle for York. Heading to the Voyageur Cup double header on the 19th, lots of tickets are sold, will be interesting to see the flux of the crowd as the evening goes on as they have allocated a rows to both Ottawa and HFX fans.

Think they are doing a pay what you want promotion for this one?

So was mildly surprised to see this tweet. Having checked some of the later games it calls into question how many season ticket holders they have. Most of the seats in the active sections are available for single game ticket sales.

York Lions is a university stadium in the middle of nowhere. Woodbine however would a soccer specific stadium in the middle a of new Vegas style casino entertainment district and residential that will have around 60k residents while being close to Pearson.

When the new district is complete, there's going LOTS of people on this site either going there for entertainment or living withing steps of that stadium. It reminds of when I was living in Liberty Village in 2011 - how often people in the area would go to those games. At Woodbine, there will be things to do before and after the game, you can make it a complete destination unlike York University

As for transit, the developer will build the Woodbine GO station meaning that from Yonge and Eglinton you will be able to take the Crosstown on line 5 to Mt.Dennis Station and take the Kitchener line to Woodbine. The line will be electrified and have frequent service between Union and Brampton 7 days a week.

Strange when actually trying to market the team is seen as a bad thing.

A good result in the home opener with nice weather would go a very long way to Valour having a successful season at the gate.

But this proposed Woodbine stadium is in limbo.

They seem to be hoping to get government funding and nothing is really happening with it.

All they have are some renderings and they have done some public lobbying.

But as far as I can tell this is not an active project

...such as if they are pinning their future hopes on a move to Etobicoke, why stick with the York branding and the nine stripes angle? Woodbine is fine for highway access but would be a big step back from a transit standpoint. As things stand, the Go line that is nearby has no weekend services unlike the Lakeshore one. Good luck attracting 2026 related federal funding with how things are between federal politicians, the CSA and CSB right now. Think people need to realize that there is likely to be no single magic bullet that solves the issues on attendance that certain CanPL clubs face.

McNab still said that the stadium will get built.

As host, that training facility will still need to get built. Will it be the same at Woodbine or a separate project like the one the city of Vaughan was pitching?

Nevertheless, York will be moving regardless.

Status quo is certainly not the way to go here

GA tickets for Pacific’s opener against Vancouver are already sold out. I can’t remember that happening often other than the match against the Whitecaps

Derbies increase attendance and this is as "local" as we are ever gonna get in this league.

We'd like them to but it has not actually been a consistent experience for the league so far.

Go over Calgary's attendance numbers for the past couple of seasons and try to pinpoint which games they hosted Edmonton without peeking at the schedule.  Ditto Hamilton and York.  We have not yet actually seen a derby bump.

So no away fans travelled between Calgary and Edmonton or Hamilton and York? I find that hard to believe.
