September and October 2023 friendly matches (plans, speculation, rumours etc.)

This time around against Nigeria she shouldn't have take the penalty, but she decided to take it.

No player on the team is going to argue with Sinclair. However, it's not her decision to make. That's why we have a coach.

Sinclair had already been designated as a penalty taker prior to the game. Priestman said as much.

Would the variable costs such as appearance fees paid either way not depend on the opponent? A  CWNT friendly against England played in Canada would require a higher fee appearance paid than would a friendly paid against, for example, Panama. Correct?

They weren't talking about the opponents (and frankly, appearance fees, etc. for women's teams aren't nearly as high as for men's teams anyway). The bulk of expenditure is the camps, etc.

Sinclair has cost Canada the last 2 World Cups.

In 2019 she should have taken the penalty, but instead she decided to ask Beckie.

Like Davies versus Belgium?

The clip includes him saying he takes responsibility. Not "I resign."

He also said, on the field, immediately after the match: "The fans will probably not forgive me." He also took full responsibility for the result.

Let's pretend that both the men and the women are allowed to play a friendly or two in the September/October window.

1) Which new/newer young men get invited and which older players may realistically be left out?

2) Who would we play, and what revenue could we expect to generate?

3) Same two questions for the women.

4) When do we put together a camp/friendly/preparation for a U-23 or U-20 level for either the men or the women? Does the CSA have any ability to pay? Could the friendlies be used to generate any revenue?

5) Could camps be combined fro the men and the women in as much as they stay at the same place, but train on separate fields (economies of scale?)?

This is all such a mess. How does the CSA generate the needed funds to properly run these programs? Can it gather new sponsors? "Company X" - the official supplier of "name the product" and primary sponsor for the CSA Fall Friendly series"

Any ideas, folks?

Exactly. Identical scenarios. Not one player on the field was going to argue with Alphonso.

Weak Canadian coaching in both instances. Priestman should never have started Sinclair in any of the 3 matches at this year's World Cup. Priestman should have used Sinclair the same way as Jill Ellis used Abby Wambach at the 2015 World Cup.

So again, he did not resign immediately after the game. He took a few days to cool down and then made his choice.

...or you could stop reading his posts and/or put him on ignore.

Not sure what's ridiculous about an incensed fan of a national team program wanting the coach fired in the immediate aftermath of a subpar World Cup finals performance. Pressure for a change in that regard would be very much the norm elsewhere under those circumstances. It's also far from bizarre for people to question whether it should be the end of the road for a player who is now 40 years old and is living off her reputation at this stage of her career.

If declaring bankruptcy so the CSB deal can be nixed is off the table for now, I don't think there are any easy answers. Maybe fan groups like the Voyageurs could start to put pressure on the CanPL owners to renegotiate in a meaningful way? Doubt there's enough unity on what is considered to be the root cause of the problem for that to happen though.

The CWNT was just "awarded" $1.56 million after their early exit from the WWC. Will the the women now split the money with the men, $778,000 for each team to maintain parity?

Is the money effectively already spent?

The men received somewhere around $10 million for their WC experience. Is the obvious lack of parity caused by the CSA, the CMNT, the CWNT, or is the lack of parity the responsibility of FIFA? From where do our national teams realistically expect to receive effective long term program funding?

Soooo lets see, Japan is prob looking for someone to give them a test, but also someone they can beat at home. We are also looking for a test, but going on the road and getting an appearance fee will help keep costs down for the window.  We win, its a coup for us, we lose its still good experience on the road against a good adversary and at least they got together for a window//game.

The JFA released a tentative kickoff time:

Friday, October 13th 7:35pm local which would mean 6:35am Eastern / 3:35am Pacific.

Brutal for those on the West coast but it's a pre-work breakfast match for those in the Eastern time zone.

A start, but certainly insufficient. Play Australia in the US during the September window. Why not??

“Given our inability to confirm an additional high-quality opponent in the September window that met our competitive needs, as well as financial constraints, we were unable to secure fixtures for both windows,” added Jason deVos, interim General Secretary, Canada Soccer.”

It's pretty clear that nothing will be going on in September. :(

What does that quote even mean? They had one lined up but couldn’t get two? We should be playing regardless. Have a home friendly against a CONCACAF team - sell some tickets for cheap and fill the place. We haven’t had a home friendly since 2014.
