Goderich CPL

Recommended Posts

The twitter feed, and this thread, are awesome. That is the way it should be.

If the CSA would just mandate each provincial SA to set up a proper FIFA style system of federated soccer in promotion and relegation, then any town could set up a team in a lower division, and strive to rise higher. The dream would be on.

Llagostera, a town with a census of just over 8000, promoted from 2005 to 2015 a total of 6 times, ending up playing two seasons in 2nd division Spain. The smallest town ever to have a team at that level. The president was a modest businesswoman whose husband had been coach in the early years.

The real reason for Roy Nasrala's Bluewater Bridge tweet is now apparent. He got lost trying to find Goderich? Having been to Goderich for soccer, albeit about 20 years ago, it never came across as a soccer hotbed and it's a long drive from anywhere with a reasonably large population, so zero chance of this happening. Not sure whether there has ever even been a senior men's amateur club there?

That is what should happen in the provinces as well.  It would likely be easier for towns such as Goderich to be in an Ontario league and do pro/rel within the provinces and travel costs would be lower that having to travel nationally(coast to coast).  You need strong provincial leagues as well as a strong CPL

Just  a thought.

District and provincial league and cup competitions are already very much in place at the amateur level and there is a Challenge Cup between the ten provincial winners to determine a national champion that has a history stretching back to before WWII. In Huron county terms, Exeter has more of a soccer pedigree than Goderich does in senior amateur.
