I guess they could dress him and throw him on at the end if they need to try and get a late goal but it seems crazy - especially after a trans Atlantic flight.

A friend of mine ran into him this morning in downtown Toronto. So I assume he flew out at some point today. Now after Seba flew back in Toronto after playing for Italy and playing for the Reds nothing would surprise me.

Wolfsburg’s defence is as good as any - not a great matchup for a Lille side that really struggles to create good chances.

Hopefully this is one of those instances where a team elevates its game to suit the moment.  If they play like they have been playing in the league, JD’s Champions League adventure will be pretty short lived.  It isn’t going to get a lot easier despite being in a group that looked like it had decent possibilities for Lille when drawn.

- RB Salzburg is currently 7 and 0 in league play to sit at the top of the Austrian league.

- Sevilla have two wins and a draw from their first 3 games and are only in 6th because they have played one less than everyone above them in the table.

- Wolfsburg are the only team above Bayern in the Bundesliga with a perfect 4 and 0.

That said, none of those teams are absolutely top sides, because Lille was in pot 1.

Now if you look at Sevilla they are a great team, no question, and should out-compete Lille; they are even stronger than last year. But Lille should be able to beat Salzburg, in a much inferior league, and at least rival Wolfsburg. Depends a lot on how the team evolves with the new manager, if they start to play to their level or still struggle with what they did right last season.

I just think it is interesting that what looked like a really favourable group seems to have gotten a lot tougher in light of the way all of the rival teams are playing so far this year.   Wolfsburg  starting with 7 straight wins would have to make Lille feeing a bit nervous.    And with the way they are playing in Ligue 1, I am not even sure if RB Salzburg will be an easy couple of games.

Lille play Wolfsburg today in (hopefully) Jonathan David’s first Champions League appearance.  Game is at 4pm Atlantic time.

It would be great to see Jonathan finally get a rookie card because of it, compared to Phonzie who has piles of them from both sides of the pond.

Especially with the Salzburg-Sevilla game ending in a draw.

dont see many games where a team gets 3 penalties in a half and only come away with one goal.

Plus Sevilla got a red in the 50th minute! Salzburg couldn't score with the man advantage.

Anyone watch the half? Was watching Davies but from the fotmob updates seems like David's been involved.

Maybe the best Lille has looked this season. No chances for Wolfsburg.

Some chances for Lille but haven't tested the keeper yet. David had one weak shot that was just wide, 2 nice link ups with Burak and a real splitting pass to Burak (but called offside).

David could have played for a foul just outside the box when John Brooks basically pushed him in the back but got up to make a pass to Burak in the box.
