Just as an aside.....are Pumas really in that top echelon? I don't follow Mexican soccer that closely, but UNAL Tigres and Monterrey strike me as being far more likely to get this "star treatment" before Pumas.

I think both of those northern clubs have found success more recently compared to Pumas, and maybe Pumas have more historic success, but as a casual onlooker it does seem that both are "bigger" nowadays.

Thoughts?

Is Cavallini injured or just in a foul mood?

His coach publically complained about his lack of quality and poor partnership with his fellow Tijuana striker to the press after Friday's loss. 😬

By the sounds of it, he'll be looking for a new club in the new year.

This whole thing of getting called and pulling out reminds me of a time somewhat recently where Cavallini was called up but then pulled out to focus on his club. Was that last NL? Cannot recall exactly. Either way, it may be best for everyone that he rehabs what ever he needs to rehab. He could have been useful for a 15 minute cameo to see out a match, but JRR getting that experience is good for his future and the teams future.

I know people feel he won't play and I tend to agree, but I wouldn't rule out him coming in late for at least one game. We'll probably want to keep David and/or Larin somewhat fresh, so both may not play the full 90. On the other hand though, both haven't played much for club, so maybe it's back-to-back 90s for both. We'll have to see I guess.

I'd love to know the back story on this current situation in that who makes the final decision on availabilty based on medical concerns?

An interview with him about his dream of qualifying for the Copa America and playing against Messi:

He also confirms that he is with Unattached FC right now.

There are rumours that after Puebla sell their striker, they may try and get Cavallini back, as he was no longer wanted at Tijuana:

Think About It GIF by Identity

Sell him for more than his true value to the Whitecaps and then buy him back when he is cheap. ;)

A step up after a poor Clausura, quite surprising.

But he's going to have to work on his fitness and get some of that intensity back, no one can do it for him.

He's had and has some issues, however I don't feel work rate and intensity are some of them.  In the right system he will score if he gets the minutes.  He just has a very specific style of play.  He doesn't have the skillset to adapt to all forms of the beautiful game.
