Basically the thought at the club wasn't to restrict his development, but rather help him grow before getting to a big club where he might sink and disappear. I agree with Rob too btw... There's a lot of rumours and speculation that I've heard in respect to Hanson. And there's so many versions that are true to different individuals.... It's just not fair to say that one side is/was right and another was wrong. He wouldn't have turned 18 until the end of October of 2014, so he wouldn't have been able to move abroad until then. Therefore, a transfer in 2013 would only have been able to come from one of the Canadian MLS teams, and we all know MLS doesn't want to pay transfer fees to the NASL. jedinathan
There was still interest in 2013. Don't know any details about it, but I do know that there was some serious offers from Europe. Don't know if it consisted of a club taking him after he turned 18 or what.
Steedman
Via the Wikipedia Landskrona BoIS[edit] On 11 July 2016 Boakai signed with Landskrona, who play in Division 1 Södra, the third tier of football in Sweden. The contract runs through 17 November.[10] Wonder what is in store for young Boakai after November.

yothat
I think the contract runs through November 2017 just an error on the wiki.
shermanator
And after making his debut a few weeks ago, he's already out of the 18 at Landskrona. Next stop: cap-tied for the Guinea national football team.
shamrock
I noticed that too. However maybe he's injured? Could be the case. Don't know if it is. yothat
shermanator
Looks like Boakai's contract with Landskrona has been terminated. Have to wonder if that's the end of his attempt to make it in Europe? To get released by a third division Swedish club when his contract was paid for by sponsors is pretty bad. http://landskronabois.com/2016/11/20/senaste-om-bois-spelartrupp/

shermanator
I agree that USL would be a smart move for Boakai, but given that he didn't want to work hard and prove himself with an NASL club, I'm not sure he wants to try the same with a USL club. If I'm honest, I would be surprised to see him land anywhere. BCM

shamrock
Yet there's still plenty of options available in Europe if he wants to give it another shot. Might want to change his agent though...
red card
Given the talk in Edmonton and now failing in European lower leagues but has shown talent potential, this is more of a case of developing his mental framework. This is something we have seen over and over: Canadian players who get a big head being a big fish in a small pond - only to find out cruelly that they're not a special snowflake. Let's see how he does in the USL... Maybe his sponsor pulled the payments bc he wasn't starting...Time for Hanson to prove himself. At least he's been training in Europe for a full year(Croatia, Sweden)
yothat
Can he sign a generation Adidas Canada deal and enter the MLS draft. Only 20 years old. Has over 34 professional games under his belt according to wiki

shermanator
The thing holding back Boakai from doing so is a complete lack of commitment to the game. I think we may have seen the last of him, unfortunately.
