A report out of Belize claims qualifying will run from Tuesday, August 23rd to Wednesday, August 31st.

https://www.breakingbelizenews.com/2022/05/05/football-federation-of-belize-calls-under-17-belize-mens-national-team-to-training-in-preparation-for-concacaf-u17-qualifiers/

Obviously, that is too short a window for the actual CONCACAF U-17 Championship, so it has to be that preliminary phase thing for the minnows that CONCACAF has done for the U17 + U20 Women and U20 Men of "this year/last year"

For the U20 women it was 5 months before the main tournament.

For the U17 women it was 5 and a half months before the main tournament.

For the U20 men it was 7 months before the main tournament.

So it looks like our young guns won't play competitively until likely January 2023 at the earliest.

---

Anybody want to update the '06 list?

Clearly Enes Sali won't be with us! 🤣

Is there a "Class of 2007 thread yet?"

Guessing that is the tournament to decide the last 4 teams that join the final tournament in the knockout stage.

CONCACAF did confirm that the part about the initial qualifiers and there was a draw:

https://www.concacaf.com/under-17s-men/article/draw-reveals-groups-for-2022-concacaf-men-s-u-17-qualifiers/

Matches will be played about a week to ten days later than originally rumoured (August 30th to September 8th)

----

It looks like the actual CONCACAF tournament will be in Guatemala in February:

https://guatefutbol.com/2022/07/11/guatemala-sera-sede-del-premundial-sub-17-de-la-concacaf/

https://www.espn.com.mx/futbol/guatemala/nota/_/id/10639462/guatemala-levanta-mano-ser-sede-premundial-juvenil

Two host cities

Guatemala City:

http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Estadio_Doroteo_Guamuch_Flores

Antigua:

http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Estadio_Pensativo ( the Wikipedia article claims that it was upgraded &/or renovated last year so as to be able to be eligible to host CONCACAF events )

----

Optimistic scenario: An ID/prep camp in the Fall and a second camp in January ( Camp Poutine Jr)?

Pessimistic scenario: Let's just call some random MLS Academy kids and see what happens ( no camps prior!)

----

According to the CSA directory...

https://canadasoccer.com/staff/

...our head coach may be Eric Tenllado.

This is my speculation because Olivieri  (everyone's favourite) is listed as a "Program Director" and Biello seems to be listed as being in charge starting at the "U18" level. The only other coach listed there is Tenllado.

Earlier this month the Guatemala U17s travelled to L.A. to face LAFC's U17s & LAFC's U19s.

Guatemala will host Honduras and Costa Rica for a prep camp for their U17s later this month.

Central American nations will also have a friendly U17 tournament in October.

https://www.espn.com.mx/futbol/guatemala/nota/_/id/10700760/seleccion-sub-17-campamento-fogueos-honduras-costa-rica

These teams will be really ready for qualifiers in early 2023!

Lazar Stefanovic, 06 CB from TFC has been called into USA U17 camp this month.

Interesting. Only Canada is listed on https://www.transfermarkt.us/lazar-stefanovic/profil/spieler/1010899

Was just at the Canada games with team Ontario:

I saw the camp roster for the US U17's that begins on the 18th and he's on it.  Should be announced in the next days I imagine.  I don't want to post a picture of the entire roster as it was given to me confidentially.  His Instagram bio also shows a US flag in addition to Canada and Serbia.

FWIW, I heard Canada is having it's first camp in September.

Quebec beat Ontario in the Canada Games 3-0 last night. Full stands & full of futbol appropriate support. Alberta took bronze over New Brunswick 6-1.

Ontario team was all TFC and coached by TFC academy. Quebec team was a mix of local clubs with St. Leonard, St. Laurent & Laval clubs leading the way.

I should have posted it here but didnt think of it.  But all these games were shown on line.  You could watched them here

Here is are final standings:

Here are the teams with players and Bios

Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games (gems.pro)

The Girls tournament starts next week on Tuesday.  Same deal,  you can watch at all the events at the portal above.   I should give a word of caution about these games.

1) They crunch a whole tournament of four games into one week. Boys was this past week; Girls next week.

2) The games are 80 mins long (not 90 mins) long

3)  I watch this event this year and in the past and (to be honest) its not the greatest soccer.   its punctuated with 80 minutes of hit and hope balls.    The girls game is 80 minutes of ball chasing.  If you are true aficionado of the sport of the soccer,  you are bound to turn away at times.   There have been some notable Alumni in the tournament.  Kamal Miller and Dane St Clair have played and have been teammates in this tourny in the past, so it was kind of interesting when them both on the pitch at the same time during the MLS All star game.

****

As I said,  not the greatest soccer.  I would not say the same about the Basketball tournament,  there have been some fantastic and highly entertaining basketball games not only this year but in the past.   You feel like you are watching a NCAA tournament.   Lots of drama and lots of mistakes but some great athleticism and contrasting styles.   I think soccer overall is more entertaining but when watching 17-19 year olds, I think basketball is better sport because it more about athleticism and strategy.   Good athleticism at strategy in basketball can be evident at any age whereas the skills that make you a soccer player take more time to refine and learn.

Weird groups. BC and Quebec in the same prelim group of three where only one goes through.  Yet another group had MB, NB and PEI. Looks like Quebec advanced on some sort of tie-breaker as the GD was the same.

For anyone interested, the U17 CONCACAF qualifiers are in February 2023.  Canada.... as usual hasn't even had a camp yet.

Very important event for youth players in Canada to be seen/exposed to the biggest clubs in the world, not to mention a U17 World Cup birth up for grabs.
