Glad to see it. He's been a critical part of the team, and it's noticeable when he's either out or having the rare off game.

Arguably could have (and really should have) been in the all star game as a coach's selection.

Cordova scores!  A modern day miracle.

Solid win for the Whitecaps tonight.  Vite becoming a bit of a specialist at scoring in the first 30 seconds of a game.

Was a bit disappointed in Johnson, but hear me out.  A number of times I thought he made the correct play, but didn't execute on it.  A number of other times, I thought he made a great initial play but it was the secondary play that let him down.  I think some of this is just him stepping up a level (NP to MLS), and the pace of play picking up.  Hoping he continues to get some decent playing time, as there's something there.  Maybe not "bound for Europe", but "future MLS veteran".  On the AFTN podcast this week, they said they'd talked to his college coach recently.  College coach said he's really talented and can play anywhere "except keeper and wing back".  Naturally, Vanni has played him at wing back the last two games.

The thing with Johnston is that he struggles with picking his head up and making the right decisions.  So many times even in the MLSNP he chooses to dribble or take guys on in the wrong moments when there's no space to attack. He's reliant on his power and quickness.  It's was a massive advantage when playing in MLS Next Pro as he's already much older than most of the opposition as well.

He's not a technical player, and at his age he probably won't develop these abilities as opposed to younger players.   He tried it against Lima 1-2 times last night and was dealt with relatively easily as other smart defenders will do at the MLS level.  You'd hope that players like Gauld and Gressel rub off on him and he can learn to switch it up on the field and look for more combination play to add another layer to his game.  He reminds me too much of a player like Erik Hurtado which isn't bad.... but I hope he'll be more.

If I'm Vancouver, I put him in the rotation to player at ST and not LWB.  Keep him as close to the opposition net as possible to maximize his qualities.

I missed the match last night but I agree with your comment about relying on his power and quickness.  When you face a player for the first time, like Roldan did last week, you get taken by surprise but then you adapt and are ready for it next time around.  Lima quite possibly had some prep given to him by his club's video coaching staff, even if it was from just that one match on the weekend.

Who knows how much more he'll develop but at least he is getting a look.

Weird to say, but a disappointing effort from the Whitecaps.  Deserved the 3-0 lead, but then got really sloppy.  Haven't kept a clean sheet in months, and looked much more interested in going for the 4th than shutting out LAG.  Damn near cost them.  Out worked in a number of areas, and a lot of lazy passes.  I'll take the points (and now being up to 7th in the standings), but considering they're going on the road soon for 7 straight they're going to need to tighten up defensively.

I only watched the first half of the pvr but letting a team with a three goal deficit and down a player get back into this match isn't a good look.

It really went from "this is a lot of fun" to total frustration in the crowd. So many lazy passes. Badly outworked in the second half. Could they have scored even more than 4? Absolutely. But they also looked like they could blow it.

Just a lot of stupid play as well, like trying to thread the needle on 40 yard through-balls with 10 minutes left instead of just keeping the ball in safe spots and making LA chase.

This has to be Rusty’s final year though, right? The drop-off from Cubas to him is unbelievable.

Even the Cordova goal was the result of a stupid play - taking it inside against multiple defenders instead of taking it to the corner to just kill the game off.

This is the last gear of Teibert's contract, though they have an option to extend. At the very least I can't see them picking up that option at the current price tag. And I don't think he's Cubas's back up anymore. That's Berhalter now. Still a drop between the two, but not as egregious and Berhalter is more on the way up.

Quick question:  did Gauld still have to give him the captain's armband when he came on?

I just kind of assumed he was in the Cubas spot - I couldn’t tell what exactly he was doing out there! Agreed Berhalter is the better back-up at this point.

Berhalter came in for Cubas at the half.  Teibert came in very shortly after the half, when Vite went down with a minor injury.  This was a poor sub, since Teibert is not a similar style of player (Ahmed or Caicedo would have been the more natural option) and also because Teibert sucks.  He runs around with even less positional awareness than he used to have, so it's understandable you couldn't tell what he was doing out there.

Caps have officially rounded the corner and are proving that they are for real. No, they are not the finished product quite yet. They blew a lead vs. Seattle and almost blew the game vs a 10-man LA, which suggests to me the guys still got some learnin' to do.  They need to kill off games, tidy up their play, understand what it takes to control a game when they are up.  Like Canada in the Gold Cup, there are still far too many self-inflicted errors.  But the team IS growing and growing, and if they can keep learning, stay humble, and work their asses off, I could see a top four finish for them in the western standings.  It is a relatively young team, which bodes well for the future.
