NEW Mother of all Canucks Abroad (and domestic)

It's not bad, just a bit underwhelming. I really don't rate the league (that they won the Copa ages ago says about the same as Uruguay being World Champion, it will never happen again). Everybody that can, leaves ASAP. But hey if you can go to Quito or a national topteam, it's an easy choice.

Ex-Montreal Impact youth player, Victor N'Diaye, is now playing with Toulouse Rodeo FC in the French 5th tier. He was with a club in the French 4th tier.  I believe he made his debut for Toulouse Rodeo in the French Cup last weekend.

He played a handful of games for CS Mont-Royal in the PLSQ last season as well.

David Monsalve has signed with FC Inter Turku in Finland. Same club he was with from 2009-2011.

Unless my Swedish is total garbage, this article kind of makes it look like he is unattached again and was flirting with a lower tier Swedish side in December:

Still to be confirmed from the club but it appears that ICT have signed Adam Straith. [EDIT: The tweet below seems to have jumped the gun. The manager is apparently interested in Adam but wants to evaluate him for another 3-4 days, before deciding on a contract.]

Ian Hume signed with Extremadura UD. Is that in the same Division as Piette @Unnamed Trialist?

Edit: Seems to be same Division Segunda División B but a different group.

Wow amazing find, thanks, I am totally amazed. At the bottom of this post I think I explain the logic of the signing.

I saw Extremadura play this year in an early Cup round at Cornellà (near Barcelona) 2nd leg, went into extra time: http://www.marcadores.com/futbol/espana/copa-del-rey/cornella-extremadura-m10365817.html

So, yes, you are right, but there is a difference: Extremadura had a nice spell in 1st division in the late 90s, and 2nd, but collapsed and disappeared and had to be refounded about 10 years ago. Had to work its way back up through lower divisions and just last year came up into 2B, in the division that includes the south of Spain (there are 4 2B divisions in Spain, Piette is in the northern one). What I saw, back in September, was a fairly technical team with nice counter attacking and ball movement, not too physical, and a nutty coach who infected his players with a lack of discipline.

Right now they are 2nd last in their group but could still avoid relegation if they get some results. They are the lowest scoring team in Group 4 of 2B. An investment group called Coinsa just bought in before Xmas so they are spending big, nine players this transfer window. The new coach is a former At Madrid and Betis player, Juan Sabas (very similar pocket size and dynamic play style as Iain).

They wear Barça colours. Play in a small town called Almendralejo which is not too attractive and a bit industrial, like Villareal. But good stadium,, rebuilt 20 years ago, and potentially good fan support. When I saw them about a hundred supporters had made the long midweek trip up to see them, that is maybe a thousand km.

The goalkeeper is Toni Doblas who is pushing 40 and used to start for Betis in 1st division, was a top quality player. Turns out Doblas was also playing in the Indian Superliga, with Delhi, both this last year and the autumn before, so that must be the connection, I am sure of it.

Edit: lots of press on this signing, seen maybe 6-7 articles. They say he had been training with a team near Manchester these last weeks. I think he still has a home in the Wirral, where Tranmere is based.

Digging around about our Canucks in Spain, I see Miki Cantave was released by Alcalá B last November and signed early December for the 2nd team of Albacete, the team Floro took into top flight.

http://www.aupaalba.es/2016/12/01/filial-del-albacete-mueve-ficha-del-mercado-invernal/

From what I can see he played last week, subbed on late: http://www.aupaalba.es/2017/01/22/merecido-triunfo-del-albacete-ante-almagro/

He started in a draw Jan 8th: http://www.aupaalba.es/2017/01/08/punto-comenzar-la-segunda-vuelta/

They are playing in 3rd Division, that is fourth tier, Group 18. A rival is his team from last year, Guadalajara. This is a step up as at Alcalá he was on the B team playing in 5th tier.

Good on Hume! Looking forward to following him and wish him well.

How do folks post tweets so they appear as a tweet here? Anyways, another Canadian brought over from Lank...

https://mobile.twitter.com/lankexperience/status/824749612862812161

You go to the right of the tweet where there is an arrow, and click on the first option, copy the tweet link. Cut and past and it comes out like this.

The first team of Albacete, whose B team Cantave signed for, is in the same division as Hume's Extremadura, but in 1st place and with good options for promotion to 2nd Div.
