Does anyone know anything about Ali Aruna? 19 year old who just made his debut for SC Braga’s U23s a few weeks ago, played ‘45 in their last game.

Transfermarkt says he’s Canadian and Congolese but I can’t find any info at all about him.

I have a feeling this kid is going somewhere. U23s for Braga is nothing to scoff at, in any case.

Long and revealing interview en francais from last year:

He has 2 goals in 9 games for Braga’s U23 team

Where are you seeing his stats? I see he scored a brace (in 30 minutes no less) in December, but looks like Braga U23’s stats haven’t been updated on transfermarkt since then, and it’s hard to find what he’s been up to since then.

good to see this (and the interview below). Obviously training with the senior team could mean anything but the last player we had playing for a big U23 team in Portugal was Malcolm Simmons who played like 3 matches and then was banished to the shadow realm, so cool to see Aruna getting his chances. Still only 19 until June. Between him and dieu-merci michel we might have a pretty solid player out of Portugal sooner than later.

I use this for Portugal, which is quite accurate and corroborates what you posted.

Though it seems by this that he hasn't played since before Xmas. He is, if you look, still on the roster though.

I hear that's the best fifth tier in the world. 😀

Mais no!

I know you are teasing me, but if you have read what I say here, I have argued the best lower tiers have to  be the ones that are a single national division in a big nation, with less teams in each division.

Germany has imo the best third tier, B3, because you have 18 in first, 18 in second, and the third consists of the 37th to 54th best teams in the country. Big stadiums, amazing fan-bases. It's elite.

In England, League One is for the 45th to 68th best teams, you can't compare. If they did it like Germany, half those teams would be 4th tier!

But after that, the only powerful nation to have a strong, single-division fourth tier is England. And then 5th tier, a single division of 24 teams, the National League. They call it semi-pro, but it is clearly the best 5th tier anywhere.

Spain improved its third tier a few years ago by changing it from 4 divisions, 80 teams, to two divisions, 40 teams. Much better. But anytime you have multiple divisions, the drop off is fast and radical. The only reason it could be a good move for Rea is that Castellón is on track to promote to Spanish 2nd division (one of the best 2nd tiers in the world ;) )

Wow that is quite a huge signing. They are in top flight Portugal, have done fairly well this year. A team just a bit north of Porto on the coast. I had never heard of this kid.

AC Milan youth player Bob Omoregbe is apparently Canada eligible. Currently on loan to Sestri Levante in Série C. Had 2 goals (both in same game) in the fall (?) season and just scored an assist against SPAL last week. Had no idea SPAL dropped so low.

There’s already a thread on this player

According to Josh Deming, Kevaughn Tavernier is on trial at AS Monaco and had already played a couple friendlies with Monaco’s reserve side against Manchester United and Strousbourg’s reserves.  Apparently he scored a goal in the game against Strousbourg.

Nice opportunity. Did he re-sign with Forge?

Here’s the article from the French press:

https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2024/exclusive-canada-u20-winger-kevaughn-tavernier-on-trial-at-as-monaco/

Playing with “groupe elite” who is basically Monaco’s reserves. Started against Manchester United and played around 60, guy who replaced him scored immediately after he was subbed in. Against Strasbourg, he came on at half time and scored a minute after he came on.

Between his goal against Chivas, two with the U20s, and now this, he’s forming quite the body of work for himself.
