    • It's a win for all except for Montreal and their supporters. Choiniere is by far the best midfielder on the team and probably the best player at the club. There is no reason to lose a homegrown talent who has been with the club since he was 12 and who has developed into an all star unless you're getting a big transfer fee in return- something Montreal supporters don't think will happen here, because he's likely going to stay in MLS. As for the bench options, neither Saliba or Zouhir are close to MC in quality, and the latter hasn't even proven that he's an MLS player. We can talk about potential, and I do think both have so much potential beyond this club or even this league, but for a club that needs to get extremely lucky with the players it develops in order to be remotely successful, losing their biggest success story over what's realistically probably not a big amount is extremely crushing. As for his drop in form this year, I think it might be a bit overstated here. For one, the season is only 9 games long, 7 of which have been on the road, both games at Saputo, he played quite well. If we think like CANMNT supporters, this is great. Choiniere could find a spot somewhere like Miami or Columbus (Nancy clearly loved him) and help them win a title, and Montreal can give Saliba a clear slot to break out this year, but for Montreal, this is really quite bad.
    • The problem is playing a back 4 means you need at least 3 midfielders that can play centrally including ideally a #10 type but due to injury they don't have those available either.
    • That was nice, really sharp soccer.  Nancy's value keeps going up.
    • I disagree about Samake being better than any other Valour defender, but Haynes at least has the excuse that he is not actually a CB. I do hope that the two Greeks plus Facchineri (terrible in first game but good in other two) can become a viable CPL back line. Or better yet, PDS abandons 3 at the back once enough central midfielders are healthy.
    • This is the sequence that had me thinking of that: https://x.com/tiagobrandao_8/status/1786034368361767110?s=46&t=spIaqlQfufAO3HreB1455Q I think 9 crew players touched the ball, no back passes to the keeper, slow build up, picked some really good spots and put it on a platter for Rossi.    I think Crew will qualify for the club World Cup (I think?), so we may see them play some big European clubs, but it would be fun to have a sort of Europa/Europa Conference style lower tier world club competition so these types of clubs could regularly play internationally. I think the top MLS teams are a lot closer to “top 5 league” quality than people give them credit for.
    • Let's be honest. When you have a total of 4 central defenders, 1 of which isn't fully fit, playing 3 at the back is a mistake. I can't see either keeper being able to replace Rayane or Sirois either. Has former Whitecaps keeper Hasal been signed by anyone yet??? (Yes, I'm joking here). Hundal and Swibel just can't be expected to provide the goals that we need. Maybe things will be different when Williams returns, but I am not hopeful.
    • Ya, he's definitely playing a different role, exactly like you said, deeper with Piette.  They're doing ok, but that middle formation doesn't bring out the best of either of them.  Piette is at his best when playing solo destroyer just above the CB's.  Choiniere was really encouraged to use his lungs and make attacking runs last year, he was probably the only CFM player with carte blanche under Losada, he really trusted and believed in him.    Choiniere could surely benefit from a change, I see this as win/win for all.  Considering the players on the bench, it would make no sense for Renard to keep him and pay him his full value. Unfortunately lots of CFM fans online are using this as another reason to bash Saputo.
    • Pacific was completely running rampant down Haynes' side.  Not saying Samake was good but he was better than the out of position Haynes.  And Samake was better than Chantzopoulos, what did they see in him, he is good for 1 goal a game for the opponents.
    • If they are bringing in someone on the relative cheap, that person might not be the one coaching us in our opening match of the World Cup.  I really could see them hiring someone like that and, depending upon how 2025 NL and Gold Cup go, they might get the chop on relatively cheaper severance while a new, higher profile guy (but short term hired gun) is brought in to lead the way.
    • After watching the first 25 minutes or whatever yesterday, I think Samake might be worse than Haynes in 2024. He never seemed like he read the game all that well but this year whatever physical attributes he previously possessed seem to have completely disappeared. He's heavy, slow, can't jump, etc.
