Sad to see him go.  But a great opportunity for Akio.  Good for Valour and the CPL in the long term.  Great that his ability was recognized and will be tested at a higher level of play.  Good luck Willy!

Is Ascanio his immediate replacement?

According to Transfermarkt Ross Count paid $100,000 for Loturi, expect Akio would command a similar amount.

I guess it was work permit issue that they didn't announce this sooner?

Are Ross County still after Dyer too?

I would assume that Ascanio's visa may have played a part in the delay of this announcement too. Ross County want Dyer too? Never heard that one.

One would assume that Ascanio is the immediate replacement, although Gutierrez can also play there and, with the arrival of Mekideche at centre back, that could also free up Cebara to go back there. Although, I can't see how he would fare in that position now as he has been out of it for quite a while.

It is also worth remembering that Dyer can play out wide and, tactically, there is also the option for inverted wingers.

Really hope Valour choose to invest some of that money into bringing in another younger Canadian. Sucks to lose Akio but I feel like the best thing for Valour is to see that we can make money from developing/giving a chance to younger players. Changes the team from a side gig you hope works out and brings in crowds to something where revenue can be generated even before the crowds come. Akio isn’t a huge sum of money you’d have to think but the point generally still stands.

I don't think that the amount has been disclosed but, as @K Edgarsaid, Loturi cost a reported 100k. That sort of money for a CPL side at present could go a long way to strengthening the side. It is all down to whether or not PDS want's to strengthen the side.

I am all for the whole bringing in younger Canadians, but there still seems to be a reliance on "international" players unfortunately.

he could have gone for free at the end of the season so the amount shouldnt be that high...it looks good for both sides specially when you look at valour with ponce and ascanio doing well and having a bunch of other good offensive players like dyer catavolo rea...and he wasnt exactly doing amazing this year with two goals one assist in thirteen games...so he might have even started going to the bench a little more...dos santos is happy with this and we see it with the next man up comment...best wishes to akio

He mentioned it on his vid there but it's worth mentioning again.  If Akio makes the roster it's away to Hearts and then at home against Celtic.  LOL, there'll be a couple of eye openers.

Tynecastle is a wonderful venue and to see Victoria Park painted green? Great fun for the man.

"Mekideche becomes the twenty-third athlete to join the roster this season, though that number is expected to go down in the near future." ?!?

Akio gone to Scotland, so Valour is down to 22.

Ohin is back training, his addition to the active roster would put Valour back at to the 23 maximum.

Mikhael and Ezparza are essentially unused to this point in the season, could either be released to make room for a new addition?

Tomy continues to practice with the team (seen in several twitter photos) does he continue as a emergency backup in case of injury?

Ezparza should be released to open an international slot

To be fair, Esparza did look a little on the "unfit" side at the start of the season. Given that he now appears to have trimmed down, he may actually get some game time going forward. I am still of the belief that Mikhael is done and that this will be his last season with Valour.

If Transfermarkt is anything to go by, ALL contracts are up at the end of this season, with the exception of Gutierrez and Catavolo (Mekideche isn't on there yet). Obviously, that wont account for any optional extensions that players may have, but this winter could prove to be an interesting one for us.

It may also be worth noting, I am also under the impression that, should neither sign an extension, both Rea and Sirois will be available at the end of the MLS season.

Kind of sounds like "we need better attendance ASAP or we will look to sell the team"

“The CPL started in 2019 and we had a very successful launch that season,” said Miller. “The pandemic really set that back. It’s a start-up team in a start-up league and now we’re working to get fans back into the building and we really need to increase the attendance. We’re going to continue to work hard to make this a success, but we need more people at these games. We’ve been patient coming out of the pandemic, but we need to see a change.”

Ok, assuming Transfermarkt is (somewhat) accurate, with so many contracts up at the end of the season, Who would you want to get a new deal and who do you think will get a new deal?

Esparza and Mikhael are healthy scratches once again... I can guess 2 players that are not getting new contacts at the end of the season. :(

Top priority: AJB, Dyer, Baquero, Gutierrez (contracted to end 2023 according to Transfermarkt), Ohin, Romeo, Levis

U23 minute Priority: Catavolo, deBrienne (contracted to end 2023 according to Transfermarkt)

To early to know: Rendon, Mekideche, Ponce, Yesli

Loan Players - have to assume they are gone: Sirois, Rea, Ascanio

Gone: Esparza, Mikhael, Fordyce (retirement)

That leaves: Cebara (in different); Pena, Carlos & Riggi (would like to see return)

Additions: replacement goalie - Barker (impressing with FC Manitoba) -or- Artemenko

Training camp invites: Tomy, anyone who does well with FC Manitoba this season, Béland-Goyette (he is still available!)

I don't think so. Unlike the other CPL teams, Valour is wholly owned by the Winnipeg Football Club/Blue Bombers, which is a non-profit organization. Yes, Valour needs to achieve financial stability in it's own right, but WFC isn't under the same pressure to make money that the privately owned clubs are.

I think there are a few things we need to see happen:

  • WFC needs to get people in Winnipeg to know about Valour:
  1. So many people still haven't heard of them. Though they have been putting up a number of billboards advertising game days. I would bet we'll see more advertising next year given that the bombers were only down 10% in revenue last year vs 2019, and given how well the Bombers are doing this year.
  2. They need to come up with some sort of tie-in between the Bomber and Valour players to get Bomber fans to come out to a game.
  3. They should also put match highlights on the jumbotrons before Bomber games and at halftime
  • CanadaSoccer needs to get a CANMNT/CANWNT game here next year. We set a record for CANWNT match attendance for the CAN/USA friendly in 2015 with 28,000 fans. We've just got to get Winnipeg to think about soccer more.
  • And the other major change needs to be the reduction in the number of weekend games in July and August. The Bombers learned long ago to not schedule games on summer weekends because of how many people head to their cottages. This year they only play two home games on a weekend all season.

Its almost the opposite...usually for privately owned the owner is supposed to have deep pockets so has the funds to take losses until he says thats enough and decides its time to sell...he knows its not a money making business and has income from elsewhere...for community owned there is not that deep pocket owner so any operation that is losing money has to be turned around or there is the risk of shutting down that operation or getting rid of it...if the losses keep going up you can be sure that they will be looking to sell it as they cannot justify keeping it going with such losses
