I'm a lot more interested/worried about whether WW3 is about to start in the Syrian desert at the moment given Donald Trump's crazy tweet, but assuming we are not on the brink of a nuclear Armageddon the salary cap bit is interesting given it implies that it's at the lower end of the anticipated range. Ham+Hal+Win+Cal has been looking probable for a while, so looks like they need Edm+Ott to be able to launch next summer, if things don't fall neatly into place in stadium terms elsewhere.

Are you saying that you don't think they launch the league in 2019 if they don't have Edmonton and Ottawa?

Seriously? Can I get examples of live sports streaming that does these things you mentioned? "immediate user controlled replays from multiple angles, coaching annotations for education, gamify all sorts of things". I'm not trying to be a jerk, I am genuinely interested if things like this exist already.

I can't think of any sports ones.   I am not saying this is currently a thing. But there is nothing impossible about any of it.   I have seen apps that let people switch views, but that is just switching streams.  What I am suggesting is different.  It involves live streaming but the ability to fetch segments from multiple  streams of the same game for the same time frame.

You wouldn't expect equity in a business without buying in. Expansion fees go towards those that took the risk and put in the time and work to get it going.

If a business has no assets and is losing money it is worth nothing. Only a fool would pay good money for equity in a business that is worth nothing.

If you rely on expansion fees to fund ongoing losses of existing teams, what happens when there are no (more) expansion teams? The league folds, that is what. Which is why relying on expansion fees would be planning for failure.

Conversely, the league is likely to be more than the sum of its parts in that every additional team will raise interest across the whole country, thus increasing the chances of improving revenue streams for all, such as TV advertising. Which is precisely why the business plan should be to REMOVE all barriers to entry, rather than erecting them in the form of expansion fees.

MLS can charge expansion fees because the business is a going concern that makes money and is therefore worth something. However, I do wonder whether this hurts them in the long run in that the league inevitably has fewer teams than it could have.

EPL does not charge expansion fees. A new club such as AFC Wimbledon can start up any time without paying an expansion fee and play its way into the EPL.

Have they even added seating for the Wanderers Grounds yet? Not sure of the current state or progress of it at this time but didn't think they were that far along.

No, but it isn't a long process. The stands are all temporary stands. An actual permanent stadium wont be built for years, the city is treating the first 3 year lease as a trial period for the team to see if demand is there. After that I believe there is an option for another few years leasing the Wanaderers Grounds while a permanent stadium is built if both sides see the demand for it.

Seems like a lot of work for the rugby event in 2 months though. Anyone have pics of the current state of the site? A quick search found no real recent info but older articles had some renderings :

halifax-stadium.jpg.size.custom.crop.108

So the 6K comes from 2500 on each side with 500 in each endzone. If it turns out like the renderings its a nice setup for 3-5 years before a permanent stadium is built.

Alright, I usually am in Moncton for business and fam, but if there is a literal open air pub at one end of the stadium, I will make the 2 hour drive to Halifax to see a game. Especially if they have non shitty beer.

Phoenix had a similar stadium built in 44 days. The exciting news is that we will have our first CPL stadium porn in the next few weeks it seems.

So, did he announce he was leaving before it was announced that he was there? Or did I miss something?

Your guess is as good as mine most likely.  It was pretty cryptic from him outing himself as being involved originally to his withdrawing.  All part of the fun the CPL veil of secrecy lol
