Less embarrassing than at the U-20 and U-23 level where player development has more time to do its thing. Fitness, experience playing in humid conditions, strength, can all play a role; but the U17 level it's more of a toss up because none of these guys are playing regular games at a high level like at the U-20 or U23s.

Also don't agree with all these university or college kids getting picked for u 20 national team that got picked over kids that are playing in Europe,  you don't see in Europe or South America kids that are in university getting picked for there rosters

??  At the U-20 CONCACAF tournie there were 3 guys out of the 20 were from College.  Until we have a pro system like Europe, with dozens of teams and academies, a true pyramid with 100's of spots for u-20 kids you are just going to have to live with the fact that some of our better prospects will end up in the US College system.  You remember thats where Larin was......

Agree.  Look at the teams around the turn of the century that actually qualified for these tournaments.  Huge NCAA influence.

Just because you were lucky to find a situation in Europe that works doesn't mean you are a good soccer player.

Former AC Milan and Juventus midfielder Pirlo said that Americans who play soccer at college are already behind in terms of their development when compared with European peers. He stressed that youth training in Europe also includes technical skills.

"They pick them and they train them in much more than just running," he said. "They train them in stopping the ball. Here that doesn't happen.

"So when a young man becomes a professional in the United States he still has some gaps that need to be filled when playing on the field," he said.

Re: Totera rant above

What a cop out!! He says the kids are good enough, then he rants about they should have looked elsewhere for kids.  Which is it? And the first place he mentions  to look is southern Ontario.

He says coaches should be fired/held accountable if we dont have success but then he was coddling Romero, who pulled the bone head slap that puts us behind the 8ball in the first game.   I used to enjoy his little vids, now i think he believes the louder he yells and the angrier he is the more traffic he gets.

He says that, and yet his team gives up 9 goals in 7 games to Cyle Larin who played in college.

The Alex Jones of Canadian soccer. Uncovering CSA conspiracies.

Think he's really more of a sycophant than an Alex Jones where the CSA and TFC are concerned as he needs to stay on their good side to keep attracting high profile guests and getting press credentials given he isn't really a journalist in mainstream media terms. That's why it was all framed (on twitter anyway, haven't waded my way through the youtube clip) as Octavio Zambrano needs to go in and sort it out, because that doesn't really rock the boat all that much.
