As you can see I went with the unorthodox 3-4-1-2. BTW everyone got their one time switch just in time - even Captain America.

Captain America must’ve flown under the radar at USSF. They should’ve known his grandmother was born in Brampton

Might be tough to keep Snowbank from melting, but this looks like a deadly lineup to me - especially Sweat Pants in goal. My only change would be Wristband for Miller.

Same lineup for Croatia, except Osorio comes in for Hutchinson

Morocco:

I debated back and forth between Richie and Alistair. My assumption here is that Richie will start getting regular minutes next fall and I decided to go with a European starting 11 outside of Miller. The fact we have 15-16-17 guys we can insert in our starting 11 and not miss a beat is such a revelation

Obviously, the competition is a long way off and lots can change, but this looks like our strongest starting 11 for a team like Belgium or Croatia for sure.

Osorio over Hutchinson and it's a great lineup. I love Hutchinson, but I don't know how well he'll be able to handle a midfield like Belgiums or Croatias.

I also adore Hutch but memories of him being destroyed by Bayern in the Champions League a few years or more back, and I think Osorio’ has got to be in the starting midfield.

Anyone else think we need to shore up the backline and midfield in order to compete at the World Cup?   I'm thinking a single attacker in a 4-5-1 as much as possible and have Davies and Buchannan out wide and help out when attacking.

Regardless of our great Ocho result, all the statistics show we could've and probably should've finished 3rd if not for some opportune finishes and incredible saves by Borjan.  We can't possibly expect our luck to carry over.  The back 3 played above expectations and their capacity.  We're going into the WC with a weak backline and thin midfield.  I'm thinking the 4-5-1 gives us the most numbers behind the ball and the best chance at quick counter attacks.

Eustaquio is doing it all in the midfield, destroying as well as build-up.  He needs help on both ends.  Delegating some of the destroyer duties would help him out, Piette would probably be the most natural but he's not playing much.  Maybe Fraser, but he's playing at a pretty low level this year, the jump to WC soccer might be rough.  Osorio and Hutch would be the others (for today), unless Arfield manages to show up (I haven't given up).  I wonder if Hoilett could take a spot in the midfield?  He's just soo intelligent with the ball.  Eustaquio, Hutch & Arfield (if we ignore the drama) would probably be our best 3, with Junior and Osorio in rotation.

The backline pretty much picks itself if everyone is healthy, only question is LB among Adekugbe, Laryea and Miller.

I'm not for experimenting too much this close to a World Cup, but anyone know if Johnston ever played defensive-mid?  I bet he'd be a wicked natural destroyer in there.

That's the best lineup I've seen. But I would switch Hutchinson with Osorio.

 

 

Millar also needs to play better for club, because that last match was brutal.
