      Does anybody know of players that have played for a tier 3 team in the Voyageurs Cup and gone on to play for an MLS or better team? I know Ryan Raposo and Alistair Johnston played for Vaughan in 2019 against Wanderers. Any other examples? Just curious.

      Wasn't Ole the manager of Man U when Davies got into a bit of hot water for saying that they should've taken the captain's armband from Harry Maguire and given it to Ronaldo? Would be funny if he came to manage Canada, letting Eustaquio keep the armband over *our* greatest player of all time. Does a CANMNT assistant earn more than a CPL headcoach? Genuine question.

      This is good for the league. Messi is an adversary, his fans don't care about these games, they just care about a player putting an entire continent's soccer culture to shame. I'm happy that LMN gave him the business and then stood on business after the game. The players should treat Messi for what he is- a high paid mercenary who came to Miami to retire and play backyard soccer against token defenses so that Lebron and Victoria Beckham and Beyonce and Speed can sit by the sidelines and have their pictures taken at the right time. I say fuck that, and every team should have a guy like Lukas ready to handle Messi this same way. You reap what you sow though and any flak he gets now that he's injured is on him. Hopefully he comes back strong though. I've done a 180 on my previous take that "he will have more success as a professional model than as a soccer player", and I think he could've contributed to our NT in some capacity.

      Just got back from Portugal, was in a sports shop and had a 130 EUR Porto shirt in hand, and last minute put it back. Would've been a lot more happy to grab something if Porto didn't staple their best midfielder to the bench, but alas, when he goes to Braga (or something) next year, I will be there waiting.

      If those Atletico rumours had any weight, which they probably don't, would be cool to see him move to their affiliate in Mexico, San Luis. Big step up, but if he sucks, Ottawa would be a good landing spot, and if he's good, eventually he makes his way to Spain.

      There are three flaws with gegenpressing when implemented by a team like Canada. 1) You need hyper-fit players on the same wavelength for 90 minutes. That's close to impossible to maintain in a tournament where you have games every three or four days. Also, you may be too young to remember but the NT team in the 86 World Cup played an earlier version of this. They burnt themselves out.  2)  In tournament situations to implement this system you need depth on the squad. Although our depth is growing it is nowhere close to accommodating the high demands of gegenpressing.          3) Against world-class teams gegenpressing will leave a backline like Canada's vulnerable. Extremely vulnerable.   If we had a couple of Tomoris on that backline, I would be willing to try it but with the players we have right now it's suicide.    You would do exactly what Marsch will do if given the reins to the national team. Admire the system and ignore the players you have on the team.   Whether today or 12 years ago, that's Marsch's M.O. He gives no thought to what players he has on his teams. He believes in his system. I have neither time nor patience for such tunnel-visioned managers.    BTW, can you name me a national team that has implemented gegenpressing in a tournament situation and won.
