Cities confirmed for Canadian 2026 bid

    Duane Rollins

We now know the six Canadian stadiums and cities that are biding to host games in the 2026 World Cup.

    They are:

    Toronto’s BMO Field

    Montreal’s Olympic Stadium

    Vancouver’s BC Place

    Edmonton’s Olympic Stadium

    Regina’s Mosaic Stadium

    Ottawa’s TD Place

There’s a not a lot of surprise on the list. Calgary declined to pursue the bid further, which may be bad news for their Canadian Premier League bid (as getting a stadium built is key to it and failing to bid now suggests that they are not yet sure if it’s going to happen).

With Canada set to get six games in total there is a certain logic to suggest that each city is likely to get a single game. Although the caveat to that is that Olympic Stadium will need serious work to be World Cup ready.

Another issue is that only one stadium – It’s almost certain that all of the five stadiums will need to put in temporary grass.

Of course none of this will matter if Morocco wins the bid.

    • It's crazy. Ayo and Jordan Hamilton had these kind of games with tfc in the past. They'll get a goal, everybody gets excited, and than they do **** all for the next 5 games that reminds you that they desperately need to improve on certain things before getting hyped. He needs to show consistency, which he hasn't in the past. Than you could start making an argument for him. In the end of the day, this still felt like a "friendly" match. These players haven't played in months and when they finally do, it's early in the morning in a hot summer day. Not a normal situation to judge by any means imo.
    • Brave SOB wish him all the best, what an inspiration.
    • Article on the league's website says Kah indicated a domestic fullback was on trial and set to be signed. Eddie Edward? Did Chris Serban re-up in Calgary?
    • I don't buy this. They are good players right now. You can tell a good player when you see one. If ZBG had one bad game here, another bad game there, then I would say "you know what, this guy needs more experience". However, the kid has played more than enough times now with Montreal and Canada without a single bad game (the mistake against Mexico aside).  Another problem I have is that "consistent starter" is just a label that doesn't really mean anything. Is he consistently good? For me the answer is a resounding yes. That actually means something. Henry is a "consistent starter" for club and country and has been for a while now, yet he makes mistakes time and again.  I don't mean to pick on Henry here, because I think he has a lot to offer us (despite the mistakes). What else do you need to see from Brault-Guillard before you get comfortable? If he is still the starter at the midway point, do you still need to see more? Do you need to see him complete a full season with "starter" status? What if he consistently starts but had ups and downs, do you ignore that just because he was a "starter"?
    • Ow praise the lord we have a CB!
    • I was only half watching, so I can`t recall the foul you are referring to. What I do recall is watching Zavaleta lose an areal dual and then Ciman not challenging the second ball, which DC put in the back of the net. On the first goal both center backs allowed Higuain to ghost behind them.  Laryea was alright in his 45 minutes. Nothing to write home about, but certainly nothing to worry about either.
    • I get it. Trust me I do. I also do hope we are past the days of that being a feel good statement.
    • Cornelius/Waterman/Miller have a few MLS games under their belt and they have some potential.
    • "Clearly".  LOL.  It's one decent game.  Let's see him string together some good performances and then maybe he can be compared to those players.
    • There's something to be said for showing up for one's national team and performing when called upon. You won't find me throwing any shade at Ricketts.
