Pacific FC Launch / 2019 off season thread

Recommended Posts

So who from the mainland has season tickets or plans on attending games regularly/occasionally? Would be good to get some sort of idea and perhaps plan or share transport, meet up on ferry, stuff like that.

I received an email from PFC regarding the shuttles to and from the stadium. Do people plan on using those? Why do they leave the stadium so late if the match kicks off at 4pm?
https://pacificfc.canpl.ca/5139-2

Lastly, I will be flying into town on Sunday morning. Where are the pre-match festivities? Any suggestions on best way to get there from the airport?

I have booked a spot on the shuttle leaving Darcy's downtown @1:30. The shuttles return after the concert and fireworks planned after the game.

Pre-match there will be a tailgate outside the park starting at 12:00 and the park itself will be open at 1:00.

Soccerway has the rosters visible. Maybe I've missed it (wouldn't suprise me), but were these already known?:

McCurdy

Marickovic

Metcalfe

McCurdy yes, he was announced recently...

The other two I have not heard any reference to...

I may have missed they were in camp, but they were definitely not announced as signed...

There was also Shun Takano who was speculated to be signed, but no official word yet.

Interesting Find, Wondering if there is any substance to this. Patrick Metcalfe played with the Whitecaps 2 back in 2017. Sascha Marinkovic - 26 year old attacker from Romania recently playing in Regionalliga (4th tier) of Germany. Complete Unknown.

Anyhow very happy that Both Soccerway and Transfermarket have added the CPL in full detail! That's how I look at other leagues actually

He was seen on social media posing with a Pacific FC Kit on media day when they were in the DR. Most likely than not he is signed, must just not be revealed

A while back I checked and there were no players listed with the teams (other then FC Edmonton, which had a few that didn't have new clubs after they ceased operations). This leads me to conclude they got their info from either the clubs or the league.

these are the players:

Another rumoured player possibly coming to the Island.

Profile

Name: Alexander Gonzalez

Age: 24

Position: Defensive Midfielder

Pro since: 2012

Former Youth International at U17 and U20 levels

Has been called up to the Senior Team before but not debuted

150 games in Panama's Primera division, in 2017 played made the move to South American top-flight in Venezuela and 2018 in Colombia's Primera A.

What a signing this would be for PFC! ☂ Certainly a big upgrade in the midfield holding down that DM Role in a 4-3-3 Formation, Someone like Understudy Matthew Baldisimo can learn a lot from

Last club for Sascha Marinkovic (unusually Slavic sounding for a Romanian):

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SV_Wacker_Burghausen

was a Regionalliga Bayern club who have been in 2. Bundesliga and 3. Liga in the not too distant past. This is probably a way to become full-time professional, for a player who is close but no cigar on that in a German context.

He's listed as German on German language wikipedia:

https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wacker_Burghausen

and is no longer on the Wacker Burghausen website roster:

On Patrick's Wiki it says he was with TSS Rovers last year, but I think I saw elsewhere he only got 5 games with them. Otherwise, a BC boy.

What is sort of surprising is that Silberbauer has not brought in anyone from Denmark, no old pro who could provide experience and willing to play at that salary, no kid looking for a break. Maybe it will come eventually.

1. yeah it is strange

2. maybe it has to do with the fact that their season is still ongoing? Free transfers can be made after the season ends (or made public anyway).

Jeebus, it's like you have not been paying attention.

Rob and Josh made it very clear from the beginning that they want the priority to be BC players. Why on earth would you think that they would be interested in signing old pros from Denmark when they can get plenty of Canadians, if not BC players?

According to club VP Brad Norris Jones, Westhills will be 85% done by the first match however the seats for the new wood grandstands won't be installed.

“We’re gonna make this look good. We’ve put hours and hours of work together knowing we’ll be about 85% complete,” Norris Jones said. “I don’t think people understand where we were a month ago and where we came from."

Apparently there was some unusual snowfall in the Victoria area that set back the construction timeline. This is not looking too good from a PR standpoint:

https://canpl.ca/article/holidays-extra-time-overtime-work-continues-at-westhills-stadium-ahead-of-first-match

...While there won’t be time to install seats on the wooden grandstands, PFC is asking their fans to get creative.

“Bring a seat if you feel you need to — a blanket, a seat cushion, whatever.”...

At least people in the new wooden grandstands know they probably have somewhere to sit. There is no sign on the live camera of bleachers going in behind the goal at the family section end yet with only three work days to go before Saturday. They do appear to have started on the supporters section now, however.

The overall capacity to the stadium will be reduced to 5,200 for the first match, Norris Jones said, citing continuing work along the stadium’s east end — the family section.

Surprised the capacity would be as high as 5,200 without that end being completed. Looked more like 3,400 in the earlier plans that were posted on here.

Marinkovic looks like an interesting signing if true. I assume Div 4 Bavaria has a lot of disparity, but he's scored quite a few goals for a biggish club at that level. Including 15 last season good for 6th in the league.

Yeah he consistently scored 14-15 goals in a tough competition, indicating he can do better than D4 Germany.

“We’re all working holidays, extra time and overtime,” Norris Jones continued. “The City of Langford and Pacific FC know how important it is to have the stadium at a level they can feel proud of.”

There was nothing much happening early this morning after sunrise Pacific time when I was checking out the webcam and they don't appear to have all that many people working on the site from what I can see. They are not exactly bursting a gut putting in the two dugouts and what appears to be a wooden platform for Mediapro's cameras in at the moment. If it's the City of Langford paying for the stadium expansion as appeared to be what attracted "Port City FC" in at the time, they are probably not that keen on the cost overruns that would result from paying lots of overtime and bringing in extra workers at short notice, if the seats involved are going to be largely empty. If you go on the Ticketmaster website there are still quite a few unsold seats in the new wooden grandstands for Sunday's game as well as a smattering of singles in the older central sections.

BBTB confirmed. I think you should combine the two monikers and go by "BBTB the Parrot"

Conjecture.

“Last I heard we’re about 800 tickets away from being at full capacity for Sunday’s match against HFX Wanderers,” Norris Jones said. “So, with how they’re moving, I would be shocked if I wake up Saturday morning and we don’t have a sell-out.

“If you look back at the history of Victoria, having a sell-out a day or two before an event of any kind is pretty rare.”

Interesting way to respond to the news on the league website that people who have paid over $30 for a seat are now being told to bring "a seat cushion, whatever". My understanding is that the family section bleachers which are grayed out completely now on ticketmaster were around 900 capacity in the plans that were posted on here. I think from memory the new big grandstand behind the goal was around 1800. If they are 800 short of capacity right now (and there are still plenty of blue dots visible on ticketmaster) with only one set of bleachers going in that would be around 2500 sold, if the eventual capacity when all the work gets done this year to have something that looks like the rendering below is around 6000. That would be 3400 tickets sold with scope for over 4000 in total if that second set of family section bleachers is already sold out and does go in by the weekend.
