Thanks to our old friend bigbird for the heads up:

David Masciantonio has moved from Benevento to Olbia. Olbia played in Serie C2A last year. I don't think the new divisions have been set yet for next season, but they will most likely still be C2A again:

There's no word on Julian Uccello's future yet. He is looking to catch on to a club that will ensure him playing time.

There should be some news about a couple of other young Canucks playing in Italy in the next few days. The official window to start signing players opens on Tuesday (July 1).

Dejan Jakovic Signs With Serbia First Division Team

Former UAB star to play for Red Star Belgrade

June 30, 2008

http://uabsports.cstv.com/sports/m-soccer/spec-rel/063008aaa.html

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Former UAB standout Dejan Jakovic has signed with Crvena Zvezda edit (Red Star) Belgrade of the Serbian First Division, announced head coach Mike Getman on Monday.

"This is a terrific opportunity for Dejan," Getman said. "I am very happy and excited for him to not only play for one of the top soccer clubs in Serbia, but one of the most successful franchises in all of Europe. He has worked really hard and is very deserving of this opportunity."

Jakovic will close out his career as one of the most decorated athletes to play for the UAB men's soccer program. Last season, he was tabbed to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) first-team All-Region. Jakovic, who was tabbed as a first-team all-region honoree in each of the last two years, is just the third UAB soccer two-time first-team recipient to be honored by the NSCAA. The Etobicoke, Ontario native is also one of eight players in UAB men's soccer history to have earned first-team all-region honors.

Despite battling injuries throughout the season, Jakovic finished the '07 campaign leading UAB in goals (6) and points (13). Jakovic showed the type of player he can be when healthy, as he paced the Blazers to a victory at then-No. 10 Indiana (Sept. 21). In that contest, Jakovic accounted for two goals en route to the 2-1 upset win over the Hoosiers.

Jakovic, who was one of 29 players selected to the preseason MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List, also earned a spot on the 2007 first-team All-Conference USA team, marking the second straight year he garnered a spot on the league's first team and the third time in three seasons he was tabbed All-C-USA (earned second team accolades as a freshman).

Jakovic gained international experience when he was selected to participate in the Canadian National Team training camp in mid-January, as the team attempted to qualify for the 2010 World Cup. He played in both of Canada's two contests.

He was later chosen to join the Canadian Olympic Team, where he started and played every minute of Canada's four contests, leading his team to a third-place result.

Just a few USL odds and ends for the next updated list:

Chris Williams and Jordan Hughes are both playing this year at Charleston but don't seem to be listed. Andres Arrango has surfaced with Marcina at Minnesota. Ross Smith at Rochester.

As we've discussed in this thread, my plan is to make this the Mother of All Professional Canadians Abroad list. I want to link each player to the club web site profile. I'll be spending some time with this closer to August/September as the web sites are updated and the transfer windows close. If, for example, the Barnsley web site has an updated profile of Humey, please provide me a link. Thanks all.

From Frank Uccello:

"Robert Stillo has been re signed for the up coming season with Genoa from Pro Belvedere till 2009 on loan the second year of this accord. A good thing as I expected, I have been told by many in Italy he will be a fine Keeper....He most likely will participate on the Primavera this year of Genoa up from last year Allevi."

"A defender from Woodbridge has also signed apparently a 2 year deal with FROSINONE primavera team his name is Matthew Citta born in 91 is playing with Sora or Woodridge Italia this year I have not seen anything to confirm but this is what I was told by the player he is leaving this July 20 - 25 th to sign."

Julian has shortened his list to 2 clubs and is waiting on an offer from another before making up his mind.

Brian Rowland backstops Crystal Palace USA to 1-1 overtime tie with New England Revolution in US Open Cup....unfortunately Crystal Palace USA lost 5-3 in PK'S....excellent result for a USL2 side vs the best MSL team who had at least 7 regulars in their lineup......

Re: Stillo

this is good news. He will apparently be training with Genoa's Primavera team regularly.

People have alot of good things to say about Robert's talent.

Too bad the U20 team don't seem interested. The people at the CSA have been made aware of Stillo's progress but don't appear to be interested. What's up with that?

Re: Citta

This is really new news. Good for him.

Word is that there is another teenager from the Vaughn area who is being looked at seriously by some Serie B teams. I'll be sure to post as soon as its confirmed.

Let's be fair VPjr. Stillo's progress has been admirable, but Street & Misciewicz (sp?) have been in the system for a while. We have only played one U20 game thus far so there will be many more opportunities for him to be called. He is also eligible for our 2011 edition of our U20s, as is Street.

trust me, I'm being more than fair. There's stuff I know that you don't.

Time will tell if Robert gets a look.

Could you please elaborate? When someone use general phrase like "people at the CSA" I'm always suspicious since the question is whether the coach is interested or not and I don't think we have an U-20 coach at the moment. Is Stephen Hart aware of this guy?

^ Yes...SH has been made aware. Unfortunately, no one in the CSA technical dept. seems keen to even acknowledge that Stillo and some others that they've been made aware of even exist.

I know that there is no U20 coach right now and there are no games scheduled nor any camps scheduled but how hard is it to acknowledge the existence of players who are INTERESTED IN PLAYING FOR CANADA but who can't get a call or email returned to simply say "thanks for letting us know about your career progress. We'll keep an eye on you".

ok, thanks.

So, from what I understand someone from the Stillo entourage (or Robert himself) has contacted the CSA technical people and he hasn't got an answer from them. What we need to do in those instances is trying to have an interview with SH and ask him about those young players who are training in Europe but aren't being call(because Stillo isn't alone).

^ I agree Loyola. In fact, i spoke with SH last week at BMO but did not get a chance to ask him that specific question. My focus was on other topics.

I can understand that the CSA doesn't have the resources to scout EVERYONE in Europe but Stillo is with a big club. it should not be too tough to get an update on his progress from reliable sources.

Sometimes, you get the sense that players who were part of the "system" get preferential treatment for no other reason that it reaffirms that the "system" works.
