Sports journalist for the Vancouver Sun and The Province so definitely credible. If they also approached Manuel Veth in a similar manner there's a good chance they were part of his "sources".

Edit: guess we do need to bear in mind it's April 1st though.

They already have been focusing on Vancouver. We haven't had any advertising or promotions and events really since Vancouver started. It's been very different than the first season

To be fair, they aren't really advertising or promoting in Vancouver this season either.

Interesting.  Cannot speak to the credibility of JJ Adams..

These players realize they're not players forever. Then there will be other players who do not see them as players. I also have an idea.. its a flying car and I shoot lazers out of my eyes

Maybe we should just cut to the Victoria Red Army and the government could own the team

JJ's more detailed description leads me to believe there really is interest in buying the club. Whether the current ownership group wants to sell is a different matter. And frankly, if I'm the players I'm not accepting that payment scheme either.

Marketing budgets are never going to equal what teams did in season 1. Teams and the league were starting from scratch. More advertising and promotion was required.

OK, but we haven't had an owner on the island since Vancouver was announced. Everything about the club feels very different

Pacific FC Season Preview:

That stat about Pacific's record without Aparicio over the last couple of years is really worrying.

Someone will have to step up to completely fill Manny's shoes as the midfield engine, but even without him the middle of the park is our deepest position by far. Tîrcoveanu, Reid, Young, Lamothe, Marvasti, Bahous, Yeates, Toussaint, Greco-Taylor, Ndom all can play either CM, AM or both. I think this is the most flexible Pacific squad we've seen so far

So Pacific, who got a stadium and training facility (according to the article) built for them, are insisting on Starlight Stadium being expanded prior to signing anything more than a one year lease. The stadium is half full. There is no need for expansion.

...City staff want the next stadium use agreement signed before the potential referendum for such, however, which leaves PFC without guarantee of its construction. While staff were reportedly directed to negotiate for a five-year term regardless, for now Pacific is keeping its options open...

The City know that referendum is unlikely to be passed by the voters in the current fiscal climate so they were asking Pacific to lock into a new five year lease with little chance of stadium expansion actually happening. Looks like SixFive Sports are calling their bluff on that and are threatening to leave Langford but not necessarily Greater Victoria. Shows how fixated the league still is on having 10,000 seats available where their economic model is concerned because it's difficult to see why they would actually need that in a Victoria context any time soon when the existing capacity is usually only around half full.

Interesting to note also that this snippet:

...The Tridents also requested to explore alternate recreational uses for the Island Training Centre, the province’s largest indoor field house: built on city-owned land and used by the community as well, Pacific use the land for a symbolic $1 fee per year. It’s coupled in with the stadium use agreement, with Langford having spent an estimated $2 million for its construction...

Appears to imply that SixFive Sports did not pay for the indoor training facility contrary to what is sometimes claimed on here as evidence of the scale of their investment in the Greater Victoria market.

I think expansion is about more than Pacific's current regular season attendance. It's about attracting larger events like national teams matches. The women's match sold out in 2 minutes and would certainly have sold 10 k, and they want to attract other big events to the stadium. Plus continental games and late cup games will often sell 10 k for Pacific. It also just increases the overall value of the club.

The $2 million the city spent probably went to ground works (fill, power, sewer etc.) and road access that the land required to be used for any purpose. Pacific paid for the facility and leases the previously unused land. They also built and donated a mini-pitch. There are plenty of articles on these contributions.

said Simpson, who grew up on the West Shore, and played pro soccer in Europe and represented Canada 43 times. “This is something that is screaming to be built here. We are leasing the land from Langford, but this facility is our own investment. We’re really excited about this.”

The mayor confirms in this article that Langford only paid for site prep and Pacific paid for the training facility.

"It’s city land and we put $2-million of prep on it and PFC built the building"

It also elaborates on the process for stadium expansion. The city is in the process of updating expansion plans for the club and public to review.
