Vancouver Whitecaps FC Roster Dance 2011

Players like Cody Arnoux!

MLS's rules are strange, malleable things according to the whims of their front office, and their whims usually err on the side of restricting player movement.

I'm not totally sure what the Arnoux situation is. He was in the RSL system and then left to sign with Vancouver? and there was a stint with Everton or something? I guess if that's the case the difference is Arnoux was in an MLS academy whereas Porter would technically have been in an USL Academy. But really it'll come down to the mood of the people making decisions that day.

Cody Arnoux played at Wake Forest. MLS offered him a contract to join the draft, instead he went to Everton. Washed out after a year, signed with the Whitecaps. But because MLS tried to sign him once many moons ago, they ruled he was ineligible to come into MLS with the Whitecaps and put him into a weighted lottery which RSL just happened to win at something like 5% odds.

Well that's a load of **** then. Another bunch of make it up as you go crap from MLS.

I suspect Chiumiento is earning more on his USSF D2 contract than he will earn in MLS as there were rumours that it was front loaded. He could be one of the last to sign. Apparently he's bought a Maserati, so I take it he's staying. Gashi has been injured since he got here and hasn't done much in camp. He could return to the residency. Mobulu has been absent from camp for personal reasons. I'm not sure what that's about. Rochat is signed, and by all reports, going to be an excellent MLS defender.

Haven't heard that name in sometime, guess this means he's healthy, he hasn't played since with TFC. (that's two teams removed, Chivas and Houston)

Hopefully he can get back on the right track and back into pro soccer. He might fit into the depth spot for VWFC, being domestic will help his cause if he is 100% physically.

Also a short foreshadowing tidbit in one of the latest Caps articles

"The club is expected to announce the signing of a veteran striker from Europe soon"

Could it be Ewerthon?

How exactly does it help his cause? The team already has the required amount of 'Canadians'. Now he is no different than any American player.

Um, doesn't take up a INT spot and we only have 8 left.

so yeah it helps. Clarified Enough???

Do not argue the Canadian Quota in this thread, if your still pissy about it start a blog or something.

It's Eric Hassli of FC Zurich.

what's with the Swiss connection for all these international signings?

We'll see but it seems that the Caps scouting has located quality, MLS affordable players in the Swiss league. They have also got players from a lot of other places (Scotland, France, Tanzania, etc) so their scouting is looking in a lot of places you don't see a lot of MLS teams looking in.

The other reason may be that the Swiss are a very physical bunch in a very physical league. They sould be able to survive the overly physical MLS.

^Rochat recently commented that MLS is much more physical and much less technical than Switzerland. We saw this quite clearly with Chiumiento last season struggling to get anything done. I guess it remains to be seen whether Hassli, 6'4, can thrive or whether he loses a competitive advantage as the defenders here tend to be bigger and stronger. Hopefully between him and Harris, Davide has a bit more room to work.
