jpg75
Players like Cody Arnoux! MLS's rules are strange, malleable things according to the whims of their front office, and their whims usually err on the side of restricting player movement. I'm not totally sure what the Arnoux situation is. He was in the RSL system and then left to sign with Vancouver? and there was a stint with Everton or something? I guess if that's the case the difference is Arnoux was in an MLS academy whereas Porter would technically have been in an USL Academy. But really it'll come down to the mood of the people making decisions that day.
Lord Bob
Cody Arnoux played at Wake Forest. MLS offered him a contract to join the draft, instead he went to Everton. Washed out after a year, signed with the Whitecaps. But because MLS tried to sign him once many moons ago, they ruled he was ineligible to come into MLS with the Whitecaps and put him into a weighted lottery which RSL just happened to win at something like 5% odds. youllneverwalkalone
Looks like former TFC trialist (I think), Camilo da Silva Sanvezzo, will be in camp in Arizona: http://twitter.com/ProvinceWeber/whitecaps

tmcmurph
Camilo da Silva Sanvezzo on trial with the Whitecaps in Arizona. Striker, Brazilian, played mostly in Malta (24 goals in 22 games). No transfer fee apparently so might be worth a shot. We'll see how he does this weekend.
ThiKu
I still say they go for Ewerthon! If any Brazilian. But he'll probably land in Qatar.
youllneverwalkalone
Lots of rumours flying around right now. Ewerthon, Riquelme, Aliadière, and Adam Boyd of Hartlepool.
youllneverwalkalone
Latest rumour I've heard. From transfer market: http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/deni-alar/profil/spieler_42004.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deni_Alar The Austrian Bundesliga isn't exactly the greatest league, but he's young and scoring. youllneverwalkalone
I suspect Chiumiento is earning more on his USSF D2 contract than he will earn in MLS as there were rumours that it was front loaded. He could be one of the last to sign. Apparently he's bought a Maserati, so I take it he's staying. Gashi has been injured since he got here and hasn't done much in camp. He could return to the residency. Mobulu has been absent from camp for personal reasons. I'm not sure what that's about. Rochat is signed, and by all reports, going to be an excellent MLS defender. youllneverwalkalone
^^Mobulu has returned to Vancouver. Porter & O'Leary gone. Too bad, I hoped both would stick around. DeMerit named captain, assisted by Dunfield and Thorrington.
Keegan
You guys might have the best defense in MLS... DeMerit and Rochat will be top 10 defenders in the league imo.. might look bad by overall team performance though if you don't find some strikers. But you'll still beat TFC
Obinna
I dunno if this has been mentioned yet or not. Kevin Harmse trialing with VWFC? http://www.theprovince.com/sports/Porter+sees+future+Montreal/4376290/story.html - Vancouver-raised defensive midfielder Kevin Harms, 26, is on trial with the club for two weeks. He played for Vancouver in 2004 and '05, and played in MLS with Toronto FC in 2008-'09.
TheKottonmouthed1555362307
Haven't heard that name in sometime, guess this means he's healthy, he hasn't played since with TFC. (that's two teams removed, Chivas and Houston) Hopefully he can get back on the right track and back into pro soccer. He might fit into the depth spot for VWFC, being domestic will help his cause if he is 100% physically. Also a short foreshadowing tidbit in one of the latest Caps articles http://whitecapsfc.com/news/2011/03/despite-setbacks-thordarson-still-undaunted "The club is expected to announce the signing of a veteran striker from Europe soon" Could it be Ewerthon? Do not argue the Canadian Quota in this thread, if your still pissy about it start a blog or something.

ThiKu
Based on the article it appears to be a good signing. Haha, is he capped internationally!? Maybe we could fastrack him! I kid, I kid.
tmcmurph
what's with the Swiss connection for all these international signings? We'll see but it seems that the Caps scouting has located quality, MLS affordable players in the Swiss league. They have also got players from a lot of other places (Scotland, France, Tanzania, etc) so their scouting is looking in a lot of places you don't see a lot of MLS teams looking in. The other reason may be that the Swiss are a very physical bunch in a very physical league. They sould be able to survive the overly physical MLS. youllneverwalkalone
^Rochat recently commented that MLS is much more physical and much less technical than Switzerland. We saw this quite clearly with Chiumiento last season struggling to get anything done. I guess it remains to be seen whether Hassli, 6'4, can thrive or whether he loses a competitive advantage as the defenders here tend to be bigger and stronger. Hopefully between him and Harris, Davide has a bit more room to work.
youllneverwalkalone
what's with the Swiss connection for all these international signings? This guy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucien_Favre He's acquainted with Soehn and his son is agent for several players, as reported by Marc Weber. Though transfermarket seems to disagree about his level of involvement with Chiumiento and Rochat.
