I think you mean his contract may not cover off-season injuries. If that is right - is that a standard clause in player's contract at that level?

He is still has another year left on his contract with Vancouver.

Most pro athletes get insurance on their legs. I don't know if he had some extra or if the employee contract with MLS covers outside events.

Edgar underwent surgery to repair his PCL, MCL and meniscus. He's expected to resume training with the team in the fall. That's a shitty deal for a 29 year old CB.

Also means we don't get Edgar for the GC.

As per this release from the Whitecaps, Edgar is on the season ending injury list.

Also, it's kind of interesting to see the comments on him not being called up (whether he refused, wasn't asked, focused on club career, whether he was good enough, etc). Parallels comments on other players in our programs today.

Still gutted he had such a big injury and more so that it was not even soccer related. At least it wasn't an ACL but MCL and meniscus are never good things to damage. Hope he comes back stronger, fitter and sharper than ever.

I know he was injured all season but this seems kinda harsh.

His salary didn't make sense...he would have been the 2nd highest paid defender on the team next season to be, at most, the first CB off the bench. Fully expect him to be back on a lower price tag if the Caps think he's fully fit.

Well they know better how he has recovered from his injury. Wouldn't be surprised if they see him as permanently damaged after the MCL, he wasn't pacey before. Not that our backline is that pacey anyway but combined with his salary might have been too much of a risk for little reward.

Hope he proves that theory wrong though and gets back playing at a decent level. He should have two or three more years left in the tank at least.
