According to this article, Atiba says this will be his last cycle:

For Hutchinson, these two games could be the end of the road in the red shirt of his country. At 33, he’s still a lively ball-winner, but he’s no longer the box-to-box dynamo he once was. “This is definitely my last time around in World Cup qualifying,” he said matter-of-factly, looking back on a youth and senior national team career spanning almost two decades. “It would mean everything if we could get back to the World Cup. But first we need to get into the

Hexagonal and take it from there.”

While it was probably obvious... I was still imagining  Hutchinson taking up the wise old veteran role and making one last go of it at a Bernieresque age

I wonder what kind of effect having a high profile player like this can have on Canadian soccer long term? If Hutchinson can have a long run in a European competition does it make other large teams maybe think about sending the odd scout to Canada. I realize soccer is already universal and no one would really slip through the cracks, but it definitely can't hurt.

Most Canadians watching Champions League on TSN do not know who Atiba Hutchinson is.

Yeah. I have to admit, I am recording Sports Centre for the sole purpose of seeing if they even mention Hutch. My guess is they don't and they probably don't even show any highlights of the game.

Glowing article on Atiba from respected European journalist Paolo Bandini.

Definitely needs to be at the Gold Cup (if he's willing).

Too bad he's 33 and not 23, but honestly "age is just a number" seems to apply to Hutch pretty aptly!

Besiktas def. Bursaspor 2-1. Explosions after match wounded atleast 20 people.

Took place outside the stadium. Suicide bomb seems to be the theory at the moment. Over a dozen dead says the Guardian:

We should tweet our best wishes/solidarity to Atiba, his family and Beşiktaș fans. Really sad stuff.

And as a follow up, Hutchinson still hasn't made his mind up about his international future. Says he will make the decision in weeks. Also mentioned he might be interested in playing in MLS later, maybe for his final year. Here's hoping he picks CPL over MLS.

If he pulls a Bernier and keeps chugging at 38, I could see him in CPL eventually after an MLS stint

I hope he gives us one last GC ... I really think that would hugely beneficial for us in terms of having a competitive squad this summer, which will potentially impact our rankings for years to come, in particular, for when the next WCQ starts.  Not to mention, I feel that we are developing some good depth, but it isn't quite there yet, so Hutch could be buying us a little extra time, so to speak, while those guys come along.

Interesting that in the past two years the US player of the year was Altidore and Bradley, while Hutchinson was ours. I don't think it is even debatable that he is better than either of them.

Therefore it is interesting that we were able to produce a more talented player than the US. Now we just need to work on the depth and maybe we could be better than the US.
