A new low at Palermo for Cristante; he has gone from a "stuck on the bench" player to a "stuck on the couch" player; he wasn't called to travel with the team to Rome (to face Lazio). No mention of injury.

EDIT: April 17th. Cristante not even on the bench as Palermo travelled (& lost) to Juventus http://palermocalcio.it/it/1516/news/scheda.php?id=32776

EDIT 2: April 20th. Palermo was playing at home so Cristante made it back to the bench!

EDIT 3: April 24th. Travelled with the team because he made the bench away to Frosinone

EDIT 4: May 1st 2016 On the bench again

That's the best news I've heard all day.

I know he's in bad form and is still young but at least he's not one of the 7. http://dlvr.it/LKXjhM " Conte calls up seven uncapped players for Italy camp"

With no club minutes since February 7th for a club that finished only 1 point above relegation in Serie A, there was NO CHANCE they were even maybe thinking about him. This is not the news we were waiting for. What we are waiting for is the Italy U21 squad announcement.

Italy U21 is playing a friendly vs France U21 in Venice on Thursday June 2nd in memory of Valeria Solesin who was killed at the Bataclan theatre in Paris. Since she was from Venice; they are holding the match there: http://www.football-italia.net/79020/u21-italy-host-france-friendly

They have posted info about tickets but there is no squad announced yet: http://www.figc.it/it/204/2532377/2016/05/News.shtml

He's a CM/DM.

There's been talk that he's not thrilled with being buried down in the depth chart.  And he may be wanting to leave Benfica to get some playing time.

In particular, the emergence of 18 yr. old Renato Sanches this season is bad news for him as he's younger, more athletic  and just an overall better player.

That Renato Sanches kid turned out to be OK!   ;)

On vacation now. Told to report to Benfica for preseason training on June 28th. http://www.abola.pt/clubes/ver.aspx?t=3&id=615654

Rumours about him joining 3 different Serie A teams: Pescara (just promoted from Serie B), Empoli & Bologna.

Obviously, Bologna is the most interesting rumour; If he's still not "Serie A starting 11 level" material and needs minutes to develop, we all know where he could be re-loaned to make more of an "Impact". ;)

Pescara it is!

Today, he signed on a one year loan, with an option to buy!

Serie A has not yet started but the first round of the Coppa Italia for Pescara was back on Saturday the 13th. They beat Frosinone 2-0.
Cristante played a full game and got himself a yellow at the 76th. I have no idea how good he was.

On the Italy front, once again he was not called into the U-21 setup for the friendly against Albania last week on Wednesday August 10th.

Cristante started and played all 90 minutes in the first match of the Serie A season, a surprising 2-2 home draw for newly promoted Pescara against last season's second place team, Napoli. He played on the right side of a midfield three. I did not find him overly impressive. A simple, quick passer of the ball. Did not seem to be very athletic.

In the two games I have watched him play (1 for Palermo last season and this one for Pescara), I can see why he has not been able to stay with a big club. The sample size is small though, so I will keep an eye on him this season.

Hopefully he will continue to see minutes, as Pescara are rumored to be after former Italian international Alberto Aquilani currently at Sporting Lisbon.

Sums up what we already knew I guess:

February 18th: Walter De Vecchi, a fomer coach of his at Milan gave him a backhanded compliment by saying that he had good tactical awareness and played well - but was not the quickest of players. http://www.mediagol.it/palermo/de-vecchi-conosco-bene-cristante-legge-bene-il-gioco-ma-ha-un-difetto/

If he doesn't make the team for the U21 Euro we need to call him up.

Worth a shot but I doubt he'd be ready to jump ship yet. He's still a 21 year old getting Serie A minutes, he will still believe in his ability to improve and catch the eye of the national program. Maybe next cycle he may be in a different point
