Greg Sutton is on trial with New York Red Bulls, who are currently training in La Manga, Spain.

Sutton played the first 45 minutes of NYRB's 1-0 win over Lech Poznan today, splitting the shutout with fellow trialist Bill Gaudette (of PR Islanders).

Serious competition for Greg, Gaudette is a solid keeper.

Thanks for the date change. I'll get on the update asap (which may be a few days).

Whilst we wait, does anyone feel passionately one way or the other about the change to a more condensed, verifiable list from the former free for all, heresay special? Honestly, the former is actually much easier -or at least quicker- to update. Any thoughts?

I've been told by a reputable player agent that Kennedy Owusu-Ansah has re-appeared on the soccer radar, playing in a Cup Match in Finland yesterday.

I don't know which team yet but I figured I would put that info out there because I'm quite certain one of the many resourceful V's will find the info that I'm frankly too lazy to search for.

Just glad to see Kennedy back playing footy rather than trying to make it in the music industry.

From 24th minute - Derek Gaudet on trial with Portland Timbers

He started in midfield for a training match against the University of Portland:

Comment on his performance in the training match - CM: Gaudet looks to be a quick, tricky #10 type player. His exchanges with DeMartin were a treat and I think he's the player who will benefit most from a little more time playing together and learning tendencies.

I didn't know he was so young (born in '84), or that he had such good stats last year (6 G, 4 A in 17 games).

I was impressed by those stats last year and I wondered why he wasn't in the January camp since we were looking for new youngsters. I guess that answers it. Here's to a speedy recovery and successful career!

I remember reading good stuff about Rowland, people were saying his move to Crystal Palace was imminent. Now in the NASL he can realistically throw himself into the MNT mix at least! He would have been a good call up to this camp going on right now to build depth. He can't be far down the domestic depth chart for keepers

"With goalkeeper Brian Rowland retiring to become a University of Maryland assistant coach, second-division Crystal Palace Baltimore has signed Chase Harrison and Evan Bush. Harrison (Virginia Tech) was drafted by Real Salt Lake in 2006 and has played for several lower-tier clubs. Bush (Akron) was with second-division Cleveland last year."

There is a comment posted below the story where a poster suggestes that Rowland should have had a shot at the back-up role for Canada.

Yes, I think Gaudette is a superior keeper to Sutton and is also 4 years younger. If there is only one keeper spot up for grabs I think Gaudette is going to take it over Greg.

Well, Sutton is still in NY's camp, FWIW

"Former Toronto FC starter Greg Sutton arrived in camp early and hasn't departed yet, while Danny Cepero found his way to the waiver wire after falling out of favor last season. Bouna Coundoul remains the projected number one as the Red Bulls weigh whether Sutton or another pair of veteran hands – European reports have persistently linked New York with a move for Eintracht Frankfurt goalkeeper Oka Nikolov in the summer, but FC Dallas holds his discovery rights – could provide a calmer, more consistent presence between the sticks."
