They are still dotting the i's and crossing the t's but Rob Friend has been signed to a 3 year deal with Hertha Berlin (relegated to Bundesliga 2 this past season).

^^ Never hurts to have more depth but at the moment neither of these players are very interesting. They are both marginal lower division players not even established lower division players. The only thing that makes them interesting is that they are both relatively young and possibly have some development potential but they are also old enough that they really need to establish themselves playing at a decent level in the next few years. At the moment, unless they are really cheap, I don't find them all that interesting players for TFC let alone our national team. Of course they do possess the right nationality to appeal to Mo, in other words the nationality of their real passport.

The ANB Academy is pleased to announce that 17-year old Academy Team member Emeka Ononye was successfully identified by Caen Football club in the French league 1.

Emeka will be on trial at Stade Malherbe Caen, France from July 7th to August 5th with ANB teammate Jason Mills who has been travelling back and forth to France since last May 2009. Emeka and Jason will be training with the U-19 and reserves of Caen.

According to FIFA’s latest regulations on the status and transfer of players, a minor is not allowed to sign for a foreign club before the age of 18.

For those who understand french, Caen did an audio interview specifically about the Canadian kids and the future potential of tapping into North American talent:

I actually posted the news of these 2 kids on the previous page...

Translation of a quote from Bannier on the link LT provided:

"Là-bas, il y a un énorme potentiel-joueurs, nous a confié Sébastien Bannier, directeur du Centre de Formation malherbiste. "En matière de recrutement, l'avenir, c'est peut-être les Etats-Unis ou le Canada. Il faut rester ouvert et se mettre à la page."

"Over there, there is enormous player potential" confided Sebastien Bannier, director of the Caen Youth Academy. "In terms of recruiting, the future is perhaps in the US and Canada. You have to stay open (minded?) and be on the (same?) page."

Hey Captains Armband, suppose the next gem will be that Canada serves no purpose and should just be made into US states?

Russia was one of the great teams missing at the WC, some fine young talent, and a strong and economically powerful league.

Rather have our players there than in any league other than the 6-7 strongest in W. Europe.
