This would be so painful. Make him U20 player of the year. He leaves to Ivory Coast.

It would be so weird in terms of timing as well; the Ivory Coast are not even in the U20s! He would just be waiting on a small chance to play with the senior team eventually - something he could do after the U20s anayway. It makes no sense.

I think Shome is replaceable, but Tabla is definitely a loss. Also surprised that Malik Johnson isn't here either.

I'm going to wait for anything official about one-time switches before I drop the f-bombs but this doesn't look good. :(

There are zero players from the Impact, quite possible the Impact just said no.

Can't see the Impact holding him back, it's not like they have Champions League matches and the season is still a month away.

Strange decision at this point in his career if he's switching sides.  I can't see this helping his cause in MLS either.. it might not hurt it at all but certainly not a boost like being a young Canadian playing domestically would give him.  He's not going to get an Ivory Coast call soon unless they cynically cap-tie him and they won't be able to qualify to a U20 WC until next cycle.

From the press release:

Outside the group of 20 players, Canada's three standby players (in case of injury) are Matthew Constant, Marcus Godinho, and Dayonn Harris. Unavailable for selection through injury were David Choinière, Philip Di Bennardo, James Pantemis, and Shamit Shome.

No mention of Tabla anywhere.

Giguere is an impact player.

Lets see what these boys got. Excited to watch the tourney!

Could be dependent on their chances of first team football this season?

Maybe the silver lining here is that both these guys are being primed to get quality MLS minutes this season, on the back of a strong pre-season, where they're actually with the squad and not at a youth tournament.

Oh that is not good at all.

Let's remember though that Bustos was flirting with Chile a few seasons ago too. The Tabla situation hasn't progressed that far...yet.

I am surprised Marcus Godinho missed out.
