I feel he's probably making around 30-50k. Still A big increase on the 12.5k he was earning with Forge.

Where are you pulling these numbers from?

I remember the 12.5k being posted sometime last year with the rest of the Forge FC players, I'll try and dig that up. As for the 30-50k i'm just taking a guess based off this sheet I found (It's outdated yes, it's from 2014). In 2014 the average Belgian 1st division player made 205k per year, I'm assuming it's risen since then but I can't see a 2nd division club (Even one with 1st division ambitions) paying that amount of money (250k) on a player with 1 year of professional experience.

If I'm being honest i'd even be surprised if he was earning half of that. That's 5x what Laryea made this past season, it's equal Marky Delgado who has been playing professionally in the MLS for 7 years.

$12.5 k 😂 there are literally amateur players who earn more than that in lower leagues.

Realistically he was probably earning around 35-42k with Forge.

You would have had to type a lot less if you just said that you made it up

Actually of everything I stated, his salary with Forge is what i'm positive about. 12.5k was his take home pay. What he's making now I'm not sure, I just don't believe the 250k that's been going around. Ofcourse I could be wrong though

The table appears to be in GBP. The argument is that he went to a well financed club with promotion ambitions. I think $250 CDN could make sense. Although if you told me it was $100k in the end, that would make sense too. I would think he was on the average salary reported on $30-40k while at Forge.

Thomas Nef has reported the league salary cap as being $800,000. He has been right about most things he has reported. I am sure that there are players in the league making this random 12.5k that you're talking about (though I still don't know where you are getting this number, perhaps you checked the MLS league minimum for 2007 and decided to use that as a number).

Borges played with Sigma before CPL. Smyrniotis knew what he had with him. There is no way he signed for 12.5k. And as stated above you are mixing currencies. The 205,000  GBP would be roughly $350,000CDN

Also who lists their salary as take home pay?? Its always stated as pay before taxes

$250k rumour started with a non-football source... they were clearly confused with the transfer fee.  $12.5 k is not close... my brothers made more playing Junior B hockey.

Actually I was the one who through up the link about the 250k. It was reported by Steve Milton of the Hamilton Spectator. Steve has been following CPL prior to its existence, so I assume he is pretty well connected, especially with Forge. I also dont believe that he would make up numbers that end up front page of the sport's section without some kind of confirmation from somewhere. If you really feel like figuring it out send him an email.

CPL actually doing pretty well on euro per player transferred at 3,764:

https://www.transfermarkt.com/canadian-premier-league/transfers/wettbewerb/CAN1

Ireland & NZ at nil. USL at 77. Iceland 1,339, Scottish Champ 1,989, Australia 4,815, and Finland 6,448 propped up by Bologna's Lasse buy.

It's also 2 players. I wouldn't really make anything about this.

Fun facts:

Thus far 52 players have  been confirmed as leaving the league. They have a total value on Transfermarkt of 6.5m euro or 125,000 per player.

18 players have been confirmed as arriving. They have a total value of 2.225m euro or 123,611 per player. Although it should be said that anyone coming out of university/low pro level typically has nil value on this site. (There are 7 such players in the 18). Transfermarkt did a CPL update about a week into the season last year.

Not the be all and end all, but some numbers to track for fun.

That is very interesting and thanks for taking the time to put it together.

However, we have to be careful about what conclusions we draw. If CPL is doing what everybody wants and helping young players to improve so that they can move to higher levels, this is exactly what we should expect -- every year. But that certainly wouldn't mean that the quality of play in CPL would be getting steadily worse every year!

^Agreed. Although, it would be nice to balance the rookies with a few returning CMNT vets and internationals who have some quality.

I'll revisit this once the clubs are done signing and TM updates their values for the newbs.

^ Transfermarkt seems to give players a non-zero value just because they are playing in CPL. I actually kept track of the initial transfermarkt values of players signed by Valour in 2019. The players listed below all had an initial value of ZERO but now have the value indicated (in euros):

Mathias Janssens €75k
Raphaël Garcia €75k
Yohan Le Bourhis €0
Dylan Sacramento €125k
Glenn Muenkat €50k
Raphael Ohin €100k
Nicolás Galvis €75k
Federico Peña €50k
Ali Musse €75k
Tyler Attardo €100k
Calum Ferguson €125k (!!!)
TOTAL: €850k

Valour FC (4 Feb 2020): €2.10m

If we take the current €2.1m as an approximation of the value of the Valour FC squad after the players listed above were given non zero values (back in 2019), we can say that the Valour squad increased from €1.25m to €2.10m for no sound reason: an increase of 68% !!

Also note: Jean-Baptiste is currently valued at €0 !!!

So, you are right, you need to wait for all the €0 values to be updated before the comparison will be useful. And I don't think this will happen until the season has been underway for a bit.

As of the Soto transfer, the average age of confirmed players out is 25.75. Confirmed players in is 24.10. I was surprised how old guys like Andre Bona were. HFX had a bunch of fogies. It will be interesting to see if some of this "experience" contributed to the surprising quality of play; or whether the younger players added here are sufficient quality to maintain or raise the standard.
