    • It’s such a strange sequence from Monterrey. At that point, they had just levelled the matchup, they’re a Mexican team at home, so they were basically in the lead, and on this game winning goal sequence, they’re asleep, at home. Columbus picked them apart, but that’s very poor defending from Monterrey which given the specific circumstances is just crazy. Not to take anything away from Columbus though, I think that sequence would work on a lot better défenses. That’s a team playing as a collective, being patient but still advancing.
    • Conceding multiple goals off corner kicks, is something. Is that talent, coaching or both? Seeing Jordan Haynes get repeatedly torched is no surprise. PDS signing him AND giving him a 2 year contract when he probably had the worst season of any defender in the league during his last season at Pacific speaks volumes about PDS' ability to evaluate talent doesn't it? I don't care if you're signing him to be 7th string or a 1st string player. PDS signing of Haynes and Samake was the bedrock of the rebuild. Samake's wild challenge causing a penalty to start the game really set the tone for the night, too. You could also see on DeBrienne's face last night "thank God I'm out of there" just like every time we play against a former player who has moved on to literally any other team.
    • So that is a perfect sequence to illustrate what I commented above, the Rayados press. So soft. And then, when the ball finds the attacking mid at the centre circle, you see up to 5-6 Monterrey players on the wrong side of the ball just freeze, they give up defending entirely. A listless show before their own fans I'd say. There is one qualifying slot left for Concacaf in the World Club Cup, and I think it is this year's ConcaChampions winner. Then Concacaf, as host, get to appoint another team, discretionary. We all know who they'll want to choose, deserving or not.  So I think to end the argument, if Columbus wins Concacaf champions then the region can be free to get Messi and co in there.
    • Monterrey was really sagging off of Crew, I think good European club defenses would press a lot harder, but completely picking apart a top Mexican club and doing it via strategic buildup instead of a bunch of athletic moves is incredibly impressive. Nancy is going places, it's only a matter of time.
    • It's a win for all except for Montreal and their supporters. Choiniere is by far the best midfielder on the team and probably the best player at the club. There is no reason to lose a homegrown talent who has been with the club since he was 12 and who has developed into an all star unless you're getting a big transfer fee in return- something Montreal supporters don't think will happen here, because he's likely going to stay in MLS. As for the bench options, neither Saliba or Zouhir are close to MC in quality, and the latter hasn't even proven that he's an MLS player. We can talk about potential, and I do think both have so much potential beyond this club or even this league, but for a club that needs to get extremely lucky with the players it develops in order to be remotely successful, losing their biggest success story over what's realistically probably not a big amount is extremely crushing. As for his drop in form this year, I think it might be a bit overstated here. For one, the season is only 9 games long, 7 of which have been on the road, both games at Saputo, he played quite well. If we think like CANMNT supporters, this is great. Choiniere could find a spot somewhere like Miami or Columbus (Nancy clearly loved him) and help them win a title, and Montreal can give Saliba a clear slot to break out this year, but for Montreal, this is really quite bad.
