Not sure we were told the full background to Roloff's move to the Cavalry last season. This appears to explain what he'll be doing with Cologne:

This is the story that is being referred to:

FC new signing from overseas "Part of the squad from now on": Keeper supplies for Baumgart

Julian Roloff (centre) is now part of the goalkeeping team at 1. FC Köln again. Here he trains on Tuesday (January 10, 2023) with Timo Horn (left) and Matthias Köbbing. After Jonas Urbig's loan from 1. FC Köln to second division club Jahn Regensburg, head coach Steffen Baumgart has a new fourth goalkeeper in training. It's an old acquaintance.

Goalkeeper supplies for Steffen Baumgart (51)! After top talent Jonas Urbig (19, loan until 2024) left Regensburg, an old acquaintance returned to Geißbockheim: Julian Roloff (21).

The Cologne native only switched to Cavalry FC in the first Canadian league in March 2022. The native of Grevenbroich wanted to realize his professional dream there, but only played four games. Now the roll backwards.

After a reserve role in Canada: Julian Roloff back at 1. FC Köln

Roloff's move home has not yet been officially announced - but he trained with Baumgart's Bundesliga team on Tuesday (January 10, 2023). The Cologne coach says: "He's a permanent fixture, part of the squad from now on. We'll take our time to look at it."

Despite Urbig's departure, Baumgart still has four goalkeepers on the training ground as desired: Marvin Schwäbe (27, currently ill), Timo Horn (29), Matthias Köbbing (25) and Roloff.

The returnee could play for the U21s in the Regionalliga West, where he was a regular keeper before his Canada adventure. Baumgart says: “That is planned. Although I am of the opinion that Matthias Köbbing should also have one or two assignments there.”

Most recently, Urbig (in goal on 13 of 20 matchdays) held the number one role in the FC second representation. Coach Mark Zimmermann's (48) alternatives are Gavin Didzilatis (20) and Tobias Trautner (27).

For Cologne's regional league team, the new football year starts on February 4th with an away game at Rot-Weiss Oberhausen. As tables-15. if the FC is in a relegation zone, it has to fight against falling into the Middle Rhine League.

$25k transfermarket value.

Why not sign an CIS player or undrafted NCAA at that point. Local players available (t-boy fayia, or former draft picks Noah Cunningham or find a youth international from the Carribean)
