Valour FC - 2023 Season Thread

"Valour has fullback Jordan Haynes and centre back Abdou Samake back to full health, forward Walter Poncé is getting closer to a return, while Jaime Siaj, another forward, is still out of action." -- not mentioned Sanchez, hopefully returning, and Ohin, likely not returning -- this game will make it 14 games, half a season missed.

"Valour are mostly healthy, Abdou Samaké back in training after missing last week. The only likely absences are Jordan Haynes, who is close to returning, and Walter Ponce... a couple of games away from full fitness."  Contradicts the above on Haynes.  "mostly healthy" -- only because they fail to mention Siaj and Ohin

Best wingback, most consistent CB, best two mids, only talented striker, all out injured.

8 of 20 outfield players

Critical game vs York - will Valour even have the bodies field a competitive squad?

With only 12 healthy outfield players (and that includes AJB who is returning from injury has not played a full game and Rendon who is permenently attached to the bench) plus whomever returns from injury in 7 days it would appear it is time to fill the 23 roster spot! (unlikely, but hoping)  Plus call in emergency short-term player(s) as the rules permit. (very unlikely)  Other teams would terminate a player like Rendon and refill his spot (not going to happen) with a player that the coaching staff would consider playing, but Valour's budget will prevent that.

Siaj, Ponce and Sanchez (if you look at pics in the coresponding facebook post) are practicing and without crutches.  Possibly the most interesting pic is the final one in facebook -- foreground is Ponce, background includes Williams and a player that looks suspiciously like Attardo?  Could be just padding the numbers at practice.

A teaser... "Phillip Dos Santos said Thursday the club is still examining opportunities to add more talent before the CPL’s summer transfer window closes in early August, including possibly some help up front."

And a vey incomplete injury report... "Matteo de Brienne, Juan Pablo Sanchez, and Gutiérrez all questionable for Sunday"... what about Ponce, Samake, Siaj, Haynes, Ohin?

Better goal track record than Siaj.  Left footed.  Hoping he plays tomorrow.

He might suck, but a lack of left-footed attackers has been a major problem for Valour this year. Maybe he works out. Stranger things have happened.

Could have brought Attardo back. He's a leftie isn't he? Or is he a right footed left winger?

injured: de Brienne, Guti, Sanchez, Ohin, Ponce.

Pianelli was on the bench yesterday but did not warmup with the others, he too must be injured.  AJB appeared to pull a hamstring.  Will the injuries ever end?

So, if you're scoring at home, and including AJB and Pianelli among the injured, they are now without:

  • their best attacking wingback and only left-sided threat (de Brienne)
  • 3 or their 4 best central midfielders
  • 2 of their 3 best central defenders
  • their best forward (not saying much there, of course)

Kian Williams looked good against York at the weekend, gets into good positions, great movement off the ball, Not seen much else of Valour this season. What do Valour fans think of him? Looked handy based on the one Valour game i've watched.

He is the team's most consistent attacking threat and top goal scorer. He has missed some time due to injury but has otherwise been good. Very good with the dead ball delivery. One of the few good foreign signings in club history. I'd award him full marks but he wears long sleeves no matter how hot it is, so a bit of a point deduction there.
