No injury updates provided. :(  Haynes injury did not look short term.  Perhaps Samake or Pianelli could return?

Valour's next 3 games are against teams below them in the standing (Van, York, Hfx).  Hopefully a chance to solidify their position near the top and not to sink towards the bottom.

Indeed. It's too early in the season to be talking about "must win" games, but it would be very disappointing not to come away with at least 4 or 5 points from the next 3 matches.

Echo that.

An already tight table is going to get tighter with each passing week.  They need the points offered now because they might not be available later (if you know what I mean).

I would find this surprising, if true.

I could see him with a MLS.2 team, but not a first team.

IMHO he doesn’t have the athleticism to be a fullback/winger/striker in MLS. He just doesn’t have the speed. CM is the only position possible without big athleticism (excluding CB).

Transfermarkt updated CanPL player valuations.  Here are the changes for Valour FC (valuations in thousands of Euros)

Up:
Niyongabire 250 to 275
de Brienne 75 to 150
Yesli 25 to 100

Down:
Ulloa 225 to 200
Ponce 150 to 100
Ohin 150 to 100
Siaj 125 to 100

Initial:
Sanchez 100
Pianelli 50
Mzoughi 25
Chandler 10
Tisseur 10

Benchwarmers Rendon (unchanged at 250) and Ulloa are the 2nd and 3rd most valuable Valour players?!?!?!

https://canpl.ca/article/preview-vancouver-fc-vs-valour-fc-2023-match-28

These previews have been wrong more often than not about the club's injury situation, but here's the update anyway:

The positive news for Valour is that Abdou Samaké — who was supposed to start last weekend but got hurt in the warmups — doesn’t appear to need any significant time on the sidelines, with the Mali-born defender already back training with the team. Andrew Jean-Baptiste is also nearing a return to the pitch after getting injured in preseason, but may not be able to play yet on Sunday. Klaidi Cela has been solid since joining the team from Vaughan SC a few week ago, and is expected to start again against Vancouver.

Despite suggesting Samake is healthy, the projected starting XI in this preview (also often wrong) has Campbell slotting in at CB.

also... "Raphael Ohin is also apparently nearing a return from an injury suffered in the Canadian Championship a few weeks ago, but his availability for Sunday remains to be seen."

Well that comment did not age well.  York has won 2 games since then and this game is no longer not about Valour staying ahead of York but trying to catch up.

He's been really steady so far this year. However, I agree with PDS when he challenges Sanchez to get into more advanced positions, can he score or assist? That's what he needs to do to take the next step. Being a tidy CM and retaining possession isn't good enough.

We couldn't score in Vancouver last week. Pacific scored 6 away at Vancouver tonight.

Forge and Pacific are miles ahead of everyone in this league.

Imagine having great goal scorers and being able to sub on several game-changing players the way Pacific and Forge do every game.

This was foreshadowing for yesterday's game.

With a little bit of finishing around the goal Valour could easily have won 3 of their draws.  6 more point would have them amounst the league leaders.  Hopefully the issue will get resolved and Valour rises in the standings, worst case is the lost points continue and eventually sinks them out of the playoff race.

"veteran centre back Andrew Jean-Baptiste and Guillaume Pianelli likely both to be available against the Wanderers. Fullback Jordan Haynes is also said to be close, leaving just Raph Ohin and Matthew Chandler on the shelf."

Doubt AJB will come off the bench this week.  Pianelli could see some playing time in HFX.  Will be interesting to see who gets playing time as the CB's return to health.  Also, who gets dropped from the bench -- Rendon was not in the lineup last week.
