u17 women is looking to be Canada's most prepped youth team. They're holding their second camp from 28 February to 6 March.

They will take part in the Costa Cálida MIMA Cup in San Pedro del Pinatar, which is in the south east part of Spain in the region of Murcia.

Canada will open against Poland in a Thursday semi-final before facing either Belgium or Sweden in the Sunday final or consolation match.

21 players selected with 15 players that were invited for last year's Mexico camp (bolded). 5 provinces repped with Ontario leading with 7 but Quebec & BC aren't too far behind (though each has a player raised in Switzerland & USA respectively). Alberta has 3 and Nova Scotia has a lone player.

Most are from National Development Centres and Regional EXCEL Centres and 4 also play with the Whitecaps. There are 4 players with stand alone clubs including 2 from the Calgary Foothills and 1 each from the Calgary Rangers and San Diego Surf.

Assuming USA wins their group, we would play them in the semi-finals if we win our group, meaning we would advance if we beat USA in that game or win the 3rd place game. If we come in 2nd place in our group we play them in the quarter finals and would need to win to have a chance at the World Cup.

To be honest, you aren't missing much.  Virtually all games are blow-out.  I honestly thought USA winning 20-0 over Grenada was a typo.  But it's kind of sad that other teams do not slow down for mercy sake.  Those poor girls confidence and mentality must be crushed...But that's me - sweet and nice guy.

It just kind of highlights the gap of the talent on women's side.  And the format needs to be re-worked for the future tournaments.  It does not do any team favours with these kind of blowouts.  We should be using the Asia's qualification format where the top and best 3 teams gets a bye into the final and the rest plays in group to qualify 5 and have just 2 groups of 4.
