I think that grossly oversimplifies things. Musk was publicly critical of Trump in the build up to the election, has made roughly equal political donations to both political parties (very slightly favouring the Democrats), and I suspect is simply making himself available to Trump to advance Space X's commercial interests. Trump is a big private sector guy, and hisn government may make significant steps to advance further privatization of public functions. Musk's company is uniquely positioned to benefit from NASA's lack of launch capacity, so he is doing what any businessman would do. Yes, Musk accepted a request from the POTUS to advise him on economic matters. But the US - Musk's main client and country of business - is under Trump's rule for 4 years. At this point people might as well make the most of a bad situation. As for the political donations, he is doing what the vast majority of elite business people do - they make tax deductible political donations to a range of political parties and politicians so that whoever gets elected knows they are a "team player". The most damning thing that your cited article actually says is that he started donating equally to both parties. And with the lines of business he is in, including large scale infrastructure and taxi for NASA, maintaining a good relationship with any administration is pretty common sense. I think it would be silly to dismiss all of the great things he is doing on the basis of pretty understandable behaviour for a guy that has billions of dollars at stake. What you consider hypocracy and dickwadedness, I simply consider non-self-destructive business practice. Put another way, if the US Government is your primary client and source of revenue, telling the President to go fuck himself on the basis of an eco-moral stance seems a bit shortsighted.
