^it's totally down to specific standards set out for each category. Category 1 being the highest. I don't imagine it gives a damn what the title of the youth program is.

But the "title" of the youth program is based on standards, so if this U21 program is an extension of the youth programs then it likely matters.

Semantics aside, the Category 1 designation from the EPPP standards is the one used for youth academy standards and will pass on to the reserves:

http://www.redcafe.net/f7/u21-league-formed-2013-14-season-351367/

The Independent can reveal that a national under-18 league is also to be established for all Premier League and Football League clubs which attain Category 1 status – the highest grading under the new Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP) – in another attempt to better develop young players.

It is unclear whether the under-21 league, which clubs with a Category 1 youth development grading under EPPP will join, will carry any commercial opportunities, though there may be some prospect of that if adequate interest is kindled in a competition which could give, for example, Chelsea's Josh McEachran or Liverpool's Raheem Sterling game time they might otherwise miss on a bench the day before.

Ipswich went for category 1, but they didn't get it. Can't remember the reason now, but I think it was something silly. Anyways my point is that it isn't necessarily to do with the condition of your youth academies as Ipswich have a very good one

Ok, its only one game. But The jury is now reconvening after roughly one year after this move. And to me:

it doesnt look like QPR improved Petrasso's game. Petrasso looked more impactfull when we saw him as a U17 in the last concacaf U17 qualifying. It looked a far cry from this result that we all recall.

http://www.concacaf.com/page/Under17s/Schedule/0,,12813,00.html

As for Carriero, he was on the bench last night.

Ps?: that link was supposed to be the game summary in 2011 of the 8-0 win versus barbadoes where Petrasso and Aleman each scored two goals

I've read a few comments from QPR supporters who seem to rate Carreiro and the QPR U21 match reports always seem to have him involved in a few good chances in the games. Can't say I've seen that about petrasso though.

Are you sure you don't have the two mixed up? Petrasso has been playing and scoring for the team while Carreiro hasn't been as involved!

^ I very well could have, and considering, IIRC, you are a QPR man yourself, it is all the more likely that that is the case.

In no way am I saying you're wrong, but here are a few quick examples of why I thought what I did (can't seem to find the QPR message board mentions):

Seems Petrasso and Carreiro are continuing to do well with QPR's U18s and U21s. Here's an article about them helping QPR to the U18 League 2 playoff finals.

http://www.qpr.co.uk/news/article/040513-u18-leeds-report-807621.aspx

A few Highlights:

"Steve Gallen’s side began brightest in Yorkshire, carving out an early opportunity through wideman Michael Petrasso. The Canadian couldn’t direct his shot on target, firing just over the bar.

"Rangers enjoyed long periods of possession in the opening stages as Petrasso’s compatriot Dylan Carreiro found Skapetis....."

"Play soon returned to the other end as the woodwork denied Rangers a superb opening goal on the half-hour mark. Petrasso once again proved the creator, cutting in from the left before seeing his goalbound effort tipped onto the post as Leeds survived.

Rangers dominated proceedings in midfield and another flowing move saw Carreiro sting the palms of the Leeds custodian with a swerving shot from outside the area."

"Petrasso again blazed wide with a volley .... as extra-time loomed large."

"There was still time for one final opportunity, though, as Skapetis struck in the first of two minutes added time. Petrasso's knock-down wasn’t cleared by the hosts, allowing the in-form Australian to swivel before firing low into the corner to the delight of the R’s dugout."

Both boys played a part in another victory (about a month ago), with special thanks to a Petrasso "wonder strike":

MICHAEL Petrasso's wonder strike all but guaranteed QPR Under-18s' place in the play-offs with victory at Bristol City on Saturday.

The Canadian's 20th-minute winner proved decisive as the Canadian stole the limelight with an unstoppable effort from 25 yards.

Petrasso also featured in an U21 fixture recently (following up an apparent goal in the last u21 game vs brentford), which notably featured three QPR first teamers: Derry, Diakate and (former Real Madrid man) Granero. It's great he's getting to play with such established professional players. It's fantastic for his development.

Great to see our young lads doing well at QPR maybe they'll be pushing for places in the Championship side next season, I know Marc Bircham speaks highly of them! Thanks for posting that, I think you might be a closet QPR fan?

Agreed, they are more likely to get pushed up with a lot of the talent leaving QPR next year. We'll see right?

Haha, sorry gator, no closet Rs fan here. Just like to see Canucks doing well. I find the English leagues are the easiest to track players down in and I know a bit about the competition.

QPR are U18 league champions.

http://www.qpr.co.uk/news/article/150513-under-18s-crowned-champions-823912.aspx

Quick mention of our boys, who both went 90 minutes in the win:

"Excellent work from Michael Petrasso saw the winger evade a whole host of challenges before squaring to Skapetis in the box, who could only swipe at an effort from 10 yards.

The chance, however, was far from dead and when the ball eventually found its way to Dylan Carreiro 25 yards from goal, the Canadian saw his curling shot beautifully tipped wide by Wilczynski."

I thought this was the Petrasso thread for a minute and my head exploded. That's too bad for Carreiro, though. He seemed to be doing okay, but I guess he's at that make or break age.

Hopefully he's shown enough to get a look from a League Two team or so.

I wouldn't be surprised if The Wall have a look at him because of the Bircham connection! He went from being a starter to a substitute in the reserve side, QPR played a lot of their senior players in conditioning stints which probably reduced his playing time as well!
